Ancient Technology still in use
Many years ago I was involved in the restoration of a 500 year old lute.
What I found curious was the owner wanted it restored to a playable condition.
When we took the top off we found the whole thing was held together with papyrus and varnish.
I still use papyrus to fix and stabilise the splits and cracks in the wood. It is without a doubt the best material to use, especially on the cracks in an instruments table as it moves with the wood and doesn't affect the tonal qualitiesRead full review...
