Versatile lens

I bought this lens especially for copying slides. This lens can copy 1:1 and I have it teamed up with a Canon 20D now and will soon upgrade to a 50D. I feel I am able get the same quality with this set-up as with a stand-alone slide scanner. A word of caution, though, I get the best results using manual focus. That is not a problem because once focus is set, it does not have to be reset. In my case size and weight doesn't matter, but it is a nice light weight lens. It is a good lens for the money.Read full review...

Macro Lens for coin photography

I find this an excellent lens for recording coins both as a statement of the coins features and minting precision but also using a shallow depth of field to artistically capture detail and feature the coin as a sculpture. At apertures closed from F16 it is sharp and easy to focus lens. And at 0.4 magnification a crown coin perfectly fills the frame at 80mm on an APS-C canon camera. I'm very pleased with it.Read full review...

TAC-SHARP IMAGES !

This lens is by far one of THE best lenses I have used for macro. As an experienced macrophotographer, I have been working with quite a few bits of equipment over the years, ranging from 1-40x magnification!

Now, I bought this lens with the intention of using it primarily handheld on live subjects.. However I can stick it on my bellows for my studio setup and get crisp, sharp images, even at F/16 with just 2 LED lamps.

I have attached some photos I have managed to get with this lens, some are handheld with a dual flash, and some are using a stacking technique. Single shots at f/22 still seem to be tack sharp, and the lens works well at pretty much any F stop, with a sweet spot around the F/16 mark.

I would recommend the lens for a beginner, right through to advanced based off the photos I have got so far.

If you were to compare this lens with, say, the 65mm MP-e lens (coming in at £800+).... it's matching that lens in EVERY way bar the magnification. However, magnification can be altered hugely with this lens, with a simple trick of adding in some extension tubes, and/or bellows. I have managed to get this lens working perfectly up to 12x magnification, with a lot of clarity still remaining in the image! It's safe to say I am really impressed with this lens.

Packaging was great, and instructions with the lens were clear and easy to understand, as I was snapping away after just 30 minutes of opening the package !

Therefore I'm rating this lens 5 stars and a MUST HAVE for ANY macro-photographer looking to get some tac-sharp images of big, small, and even minute bugs !

Great documentation, great lens, excellent value for money. Will add pictures later.

I have been taking macro photographs for a few years and invested in various tubes and one other lens. While I have only just begun to explore the possibilities with this lens, so far it has performed well above anything else I have put together. Having the automatic focus, etc. on the 1:1 is very handy when taking pictures of live things, the 1:1.6 manual is great for stationary work. For the money it is excellent and it supports a charity as well.Read full review...

Excellent Lens. Excellent Price

For the price this is an excellent lens. Manual or Auto-focus modes. Needs practice to perfect sharp photos. No difference to photography in general. If your not sure about Macro photography and want to try it out this lens is good value and it's not going to break the bank.Read full review...

It really is a super macro lens !

I am new to Macro photography, and can’t really afford to splash out on a top of the range lens, I came across this, canon lens and I have not been sorry at all, I did struggle at first and then I read the instructions, my images have gotten better within half an hour, you really have to read the instructions, my first images were soft and blurry and then I tried it on f22 like it states and hey presto, I was well happy, and it will only get better , so don’t pass this lens by, it really is worth it, so give it a go, and the customer support is second to none, outstanding, I’m really excited to get out there with my new lens !Read full review...
