It is a good value for money,

Pros:
It has built-in FreeView,
HDMI connection to Laptop, - which is brilliant.

Cons:
The response to the remote is not the quickest, but not bad.

I didn't had other LCD TV before to compare it, I bought this second hand.Read full review...

Excellent LCD TV

I already own a Samsung Blu Ray player, and this TV compliments it perfectly. Although it is a used item, it's in excellent condition, and works perfectly.

Great VFM, great picture with some fiddling.

This is the first HD-Ready set I bought and wasn't expecting too much, it being a very middle of the road sort of telly. Out of the box, the picture settings were horrible, but a quick reset to factory values and a bit of fiddling about soon had a very watchable picture.
Right now I don't have any HD inputs to it, but will be hooking up a Freesat HD box soon. I'm using normal terrestrial and Sky SD inputs to it and even basic Sky SD is so much better than it used to be on the old set - which I had thought was halfway decent, but I didn't realise how much the old set was disguising.
One thing I notice, is how bad some of the video sources really are. On the news channels it's not so surprising that so-called 'broadcast quality' ENG sources are anything but; but what comes as a bit of a surprise is the fairly mediocre quality of much of the repeated drama series via Sky, such as ITV3, etc. This set really shows up differences in quality.
One slight niggle I have is the lack of a single-button control on the remote for aspect ratio changing - at times this was very useful on my old Grundig. The Samsung handles auto aspect ratio changing very well most of the time but the odd occasion it doesn't. I find that setting the Sky box to 16:9 and enable scart control in the Sky menu; the telly to 'zoom', it will display widescreen fine when it's present from the source and also revert to zoom when presented with an SD 4:3 picture. This gets rid of the 'fat people' syndrome you see on many sets and fills the screen. The normal 4:3 setting simply displays a small 4:3 raster on the screen with annoyingly small use of the screen space.

There is one other minor glitch the set has, but it's not an usual one - on fast-moving backgrounds it pixelates like stirred porridge. Whether a 100Hz set might cure this I don't know - but I'll be looking at that option for the next one I buy.

For anybody wondering what settings to use, here are my current settings:

Mode: Movie
Backlight: 7
Contrast: 77
Brightness: 55
Sharpness: 0
Colour: 50
Tint G50/R50

Advanced settings:
Black Tone: Off
Dyn Contrast: Off
Gamma: -1
Colour Space: Auto
Flesh Tone: 0
Edge Enhancement: Off

I find these settings give deep blacks with good shadow details, well-controlled highlights and very natural colours. Some might find it too muted, but that's all personal preference.

Overall, I like this telly and it's great value for money. I can live with the shortcomings in light of the very good picture quality ( the motion blur isn't much of a problem as I don't watch football, although sports fans might find it a bugbear).

Samsung tv.

Very pleased with this tv. Picture is very clear on digital and sky. Set up was easy, the tv picked up loads of freeview chanels. Setting it up with the sky box controller was simple. The sound quality is excellent. It looks really good on my tv cabinate.Read full review...
