Fantastic cpu

Purchased this cpu as lots of my pc parts broke due to a leaking watercooler. My last cpu was an overclocked i7 4790k so whatever i bought had to outdo that (not an easy task), the i7 8700k has done exactly that happily outperforming my old cpu with ease! The 6 cores 12 threads really help with a multitasking load on pc and gaming is a dream. Anyone who purchases this cpu im sure you will not be disappointed.Read full review...

Price is still a tad high compared to 8 cores Ryzen 3xxx CPUs

Being able to work on all consumer socket LGA1151-2 motherboard without needing to worry about BIOS updates (you should always keep BIOS up to date) is a great boon since the Z370 price are starting to come down (late-July 2020).
A 9700/9900/k/kf would be a better upgrade path for existing LGA1151-2 motherboard owner (who have updated BIOS for coffeelake refresh). As the compatible chipsets (Z3xx) are no longer in development, there's really no point in getting an unlocked CPU (the i7-8700k being reviewed) with thermal-paste under the IHS when the 9700/9900k exist with soldered IHS instead. Soldered IHS grant a with much better overclocking potential compared to thermal paste (unless you delid, but that's beyond what most user are willing to do).

Bottom-line: a good choice if you can get this CPU & Z370 mobo for <£250, AND assuming you already have some slower DDR4 (Ryzen 3xxx memory sweetspot is 3600MHz) already. Otherwise, look elsewhere, the perf/£ isn't there for a from the ground up build/system with or without used parts.

Monster beast, low temps with delid

I7 8700K, OEM variant, got it for £279!. Performances are great and delid was also requested and performed free of charge, as per description. It's able to keep the CPU overclocked at 4.7GHz @ 1.08V at 70°C max under load... Insane! Greatly recommended.Read full review...

Step up from i7 2600k

After running 2nd gen processor for last 7 years you can really feel the difference in the 8700k in the processing and the overclock temps running much cooler than the 2nd gen.
Worth while upgrade I.m.oRead full review...
