Vastly exceeded my expectations.
Received this today and have already returned from the beach (where I caught a nice 2kg sea bass). I knew it would be an OK rod set, based on research, but I didn't expect it to be this good! The reel is great quality - good large size, decent weight, feels very solid. The action is extremely smooth. The rod itself is a typical telescopic setup. A short beach-caster/pier or surf rod, that can also be used for spinning heavier lures (I recommend 1-3oz). It packs small enough to carry in the car and use when an opportunity presents itself - like with cameras, the best one's the one you have with you at the right moment! Great little travel rod.
I don't know whether I was expecting great things for less than a tenner, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is well presented in it's suede feel slip. It feels pretty well built, and well balanced. I've only used it the once, and haven't caught anything with it yet, but it feels comfortable in the hand.

I have been very dubious about the rod until I tried it out today. I mean, £20 for a rod and reel, oh well, I suppose you get what you paid for. But no, this rod and reel far exceeds that. The reel is superb and worth £20 on its own.
This is a general purpose rod so don't go expecting any record casts,,,,,,,, until that is, you take the free line off and replace it with braid.
I tried some casting today and cast a 28g lure about 40 yards and a 4oz lead about 60 yards so with braid it would fly. recommend heavier lures and no more than 3oz. Read full review...

Great Basin rod
Great basic rod. I have used it to do beach casting sessions on a 4oz lead weight and it was able to with stand the pressure. I would recommend a 3oz weight which would work well for this rod.
