The Good The Bad and The Ugly but not plug and play
The best thing about this receiver is that is has so many options. It is also the worst thing about it. For instance, not only does it have that pernicious factory default sleep timer that shuts it off in 240 minutes, but it has another factory default option (I forget what they call) that does the same thing (in addition to the sleep timer.) The captions look funny on some channels (we get them. They just look weird on this one on a channel or two. That may be an educational advantage if you are studying cuneiform. Of course, there are a probably 32 adjustments for the captions option alone, so of course, we just put 'default' - which brings us to the bottom line. If you don't want to go through the entire setup and options menus, you will probably think there is something wrong with it and send it back.
It does have one feature I like. It gives you better reception on coaxial output to the TV. You can receive both coaxial or composite plugs on your TV, but this receiver gives you better pictures on the coaxial, if you set it as "preferred" on the Audio/Video menu, choose "preferred conn."Read full review

converter box
My building has been under MAJOR renovations, that`s why it`s taken so long to write this review. When they put a solar panel on the roof they cut the antenna wires. At first, I was told it was my converter box, so I ordered this one. A few days after it was installed-there was a loud snap and my TV went blank. I unplugged the box, but that didn`t work. So I reconnected my old box and it`s been working just fine. I`m afraid to reconnect this box, so it sits in a cabinet collecting dust .Even though I would recommend it-mine was a dud. My old box is the same brand and has been around since these boxes were required. Hope this helps, Joyce.Read full review
The best
Using this gizmo, I'm able to pick up roughly 80 channels on an analog tv.. use one also on a digital tv... which without it, picks up half as many channels... so I don't know, but it seems to have a signal amplifier function as well as a converter function. I've tried other brands of these over the years... and they were crummy... difficult to program and use or degenerate into unusable dysfunction in a matter of a few months.Read full review

Can't Afford Cable
12/31/2016
I get additional television channels than using a standard plug in antenna, it picks up those in between hard to signal channels.
Right now having a cable bill isn't in my budget and I don't get to watch some of the really good cable programings.
Besides having thw convertable box I really don't mind watching the classic black & white movies they are a lot of and very interesting.
I live in NM and the majority of the home and apartment complexes here are made out of Adobe/stuko therefore reception is really bad, i have to constantly move the antennas around., it's not the covertor box its the buildings and its structures.Read full review

Analog Pass-Through Conversion Box DTX9950
It seems to work fine for now, but I know the units can just go out, and your remote can no longer communicate with them. This worked right away, but I have no idea for how long. I realize they are hard to get, but even so, it was expensive compared to when they first came out and you got a coupon. It was the least expensive I could find. Glad to have it, and it came in a very timely fashion. Let's hope it works as long as my TV. But get this, my TV is from the 80's, and is a Panasonic with a VHS player. Your big screens barely last five years anymore.
Talk about landfills......
I guess, in a sense, it was a good value, since cable is not.Read full review

Worlds Best Converter
The Converter works as it is supposed to. I had on go bad and replaced it with another brand - terrible. I owned this brand previously. It lasted some 15 years or so. I hope this is the same. I get some 60 channels sharp and clear. Programs on each channel tells what the show presents. I go from channel to channel, just from one to another favorite channel, and I have a indicator of how clear each channel it. Love it. Read full review

Easy to set up, easy to use
Easy, easy to set up to indoor antenna. Just follow menu after all set up to choose favorite channels. In Arizona we get a lot of Mexican channels, but I don't speak Spanish, so fav channels are a Time saver. Read full review

Digital Stream DTX9550 Converter box - works great, good condition
A very good-condition used Digital Stream DTX9550 Converter Box: just what I needed to replace my old one (which quietly powered down for the last time a week prior) at a very nice low price - arrived earlier than estimated, and works great-much thanks! (I still had the remote :) )
I've had a few other DTX9550, they really do hold up a very long time and seem to perform better in general /offer more features/ than any of the others I've tried - kudos!Read full review

DTX9950 Better than expected
The DTX9950 is easy to set-up and use. Menus are easy to follow. Remote control works both TV and converter eliminating the need for two remote controls. I always read the negative reviews first on a product before buying something and rarely purchase something with less than 4-stars that I'm unfamiliar with. This was connected to a TV that isn't watched very often so I like the standby feature on it as it uses minimal electricity when the TV is not on. Also, there's no external transformer to wear out. Overall I'm very satisfied with this purchase and then purchased another one.Read full review

Digital DEvolution
Bought one of these for the Digital change over way back w/ gov Coupon-lasted this long WITHOUT a lot of TV watching on my part - replacement works fine though the remote Compatibility thing is annoying - have no way to compare if this particular model works Any Better than a Pricier/Other Manufacturers model - would keep one around just in case one of the newer "Smart Tech Upgrade" devices tanksRead full review

Easy to use
I like the simple remote and the ease of set up. It pulls in more channels than I wxpected and the pictures are perfectly clear. The only issue I have is TV guide function only shows the schedule for the channel it is on and thd digital display of the channel it is on shows on the screen of the TV and not on the streaming device itself.Read full review
