Caught fire afer 2 weeks!

Looks good quality. Light weight.
I bought it for my 95 year old mother as her 1.7 litre kettle was too heavy.
She liked this new kettle as it was lighter.
After using it a little over 2 weeks I got a phone call. The kettle had been on fire. I called round. The handle was completely melted. The plastic top was melted. I can only imagine my mother had switched it on in the kitchen, sat down in the living room and fallen asleep. For some reason the kettle hadn't automatically switched off upon boiling and had boiled dry and kept boiling. It was in flames when she went back into the kitchen. She threw 3 cups of cold water onto it to dowse the flames. (Not the best idea!). Thankfully the kitchen curtains close by didn't catch fire otherwise it could have been a lot worse. I believe either this particular kettle had a fault, or there is a design fault. If any other owner has had a similar experience, there is a design fault which needs rectifying immediately.Read full review...
