Decade old tech
This is a great camera - but remember a decade in digital cameras is an age.
I have bought 3 G-series Panasonic Lumix cameras from E-Bay over 2017 - and this G2 model is the best of the early generation camera bodies. The wheel controls of the G1 have been moved from the camera front to the back (a great help over the G1) and are as good as Panasonic ever have managed since. The G3, despite its better sensor, is a beast to control the settings for and frustrating to use in practice. The G10 model sacrifices the viewfinder size and resolution - making it a poor choice for a mirror-less camera body.
Where new tech does score dramatically over the 1st generation sensor of the G1, G2 and G10 models is in the dynamic range of the original 12MP sensor which is only 10.3 EV. This also limits the usable ASA sensitivity range of the camera. Compared with other decade old crop sensor digital SLR cameras from Nikon and Canon this is a big failing - see the head-to-head test from DXO against the 2005 era Nikon D50 camera for example . If you can live with that issue (and that is the only reason this isn't a 5-star rated camera) then this is a good buy.Read full review...
