This was just a collectors item for me

Haha, this game doesnt work anymore, since it was discontinued a few years ago. I just wanted a copy to complete my Final Fantasy collection. The case and game look great, a good addition to the collection.Read full review...

Only a memory of better day...

3/10/21 - I got the game disc to match the case for decor & memory purposes. I had a short-lived goal in life to play & beat every Final Fantasy game... but that was before I met the love of my life.

The Final Fantasy XI (11) Xbox 360 servers were shut down years ago & everyone plays FFXIV (14) nowadays.
I gained 50 lbs. in 5 years so I haven't picked up an MMORPG, but I miss my old guildmates.

Final Fantasy XI: Vana'diel Collection 2008 (Xbox 360)

Final Fantasy XI: Vana'diel Collection 2008 for the XBOX 360 is a descent game with a flowing story line and modest graphics. I like that it is online, that it is a fairly impressive looking game with good leveling systems and plenty of things to occupy any spare time you may have. On the flip side, there are many downfalls the game has. Firstly; the fact that, starting off (having never played Final Fantasy XI before but still having a secure grasp of a very wide range of RPGs and MMORPGs), it is very difficult to get your "sea legs" on this game, most notably is the fact that Friendly NPC'S are not marked in any way as to having a Quest, Mission or other important information for a beginner like I was. If I were somebody who has never played an MMORPG, it would be extremely difficult to find my way and get along in the game. Secondly, having only played for a short while, non-the-less being no stranger to the game, I find the interaction between other players to be inadequate, as I see other players few and far between. Also, the Auction House in-game feature is, frankly, unremarkable. In comparison to World of Warcraft (a slightly similar MMORPG), Final Fantasy XI shows no starting bid price, buyout price or any bidding information one would expect from an auction house, as World of Warcraft has all these features in the Auction House. Alas, I digress, Final Fantasy XI for the XBOX 360 is an all-together video game with many great elements one would expect from an RPG. I give it 3 out of 5 stars, a very playable, fun and interesting game.Read full review...

For fanboys only

I bought FFXI because I used to play other MMO's and I've always been a big fan of the Final Fantasy series. What I got was a slow moving game that everyone else has been playing for so long that it's nearly impossible to find anyone to play with. The graphics were so-so, being a port from the PC, so it felt like I was playing a regular Xbox game on the 360. To get the best experience from this game, a keyboard is needed, not just recommended, but it's a pain to have a keyboard sitting in your lap while using the controller. One good thing is that you don't have to have the Xbox Live gold account to play on this, just a Silver account will do, but there's still a monthly fee for server access, as well as adding on a dollar per character you create. If you're looking for an MMO to get started on, I'd steer clear of this one unless you feel you absolutely must play it. City of Heroes for the PC is a much better starter. FFXI doesn't suck, but it's not great. I quit after playing it twice and sold it on eBay. Maybe you bought my copy.Read full review...

Time consuming and boring

I owned this game for about a month. It does nothing for the FF series. Anyone who was a fan of good RPGS like FF7 are going to be very disappointed with this game. It is very hard to make money, and it takes a long time to level up. The world is so big that you can spend hours trying to get where you want to be. The group fighting is very fun, but you almost always have some idiot in your group who pulls a monster too strong or too soon! I guess that was what made the game fun though... If you really don't have anything to do, then I guess this game would be good for you. It is very depressing trying to make money, and there is no story line whatsoever. You will meet some great people though, and that made the game fun. The only point in the game is to achieve higher levels, so you can wear better armor, so you can fight stronger monsters, so you can achieve higher levels... and while this ideology may help prep younger children for corporate america, it can get pretty tiresome after about a week for the rest of us. If you want a massive online chat room with a hefty monthly service that has some cool grafics and battles, then buy this. If you want a great RPG that has outstanding grafics and an excellent story line, buy Oblivion.Read full review...

DON'T BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE MONEY TO WASTE!.

This game and the Microsoft XBOX 360 Live experience is by far the worst I have ever had since playing games online. The game itself cost 50 bucks, Then you can only play it online. That means 12 more dollars a month for XBOX Live for the gold supscription, which is a ripoff. It tells you can download games watch video and all that, what they dont say is you buy points from a XBOX Live Media center, like for 69 dollars u get 5000 points, then the games they offer cost you 1200 points or even more, so u download like 3 games for 69 dollars. They dont even give you any when you sign up, nor did they when I spent 600 dollars for the entire system, controllers, etc. Then you have to buy access to Playonline to create profile, another 12 dollars, Then after all that and about 2 hours of downloading updates to the game, It makes you buy each charcter, 12 dollars for the first and a dollar more for each one thereafter, did I also mention, thats per month!!!! So startup for this game alone was around 86 dollars, and to keep playing it every month it costs you 36 dollars, a MONTH!!!!!! If you want to be squealing from the feeling, email me and Ill sell it to you. Well, thanks again to Microsoft and other spineless, souless, marketing powerhouses for stealing more of our money. Thanks to Mr. Gates for wasting my time - time I will never get back; sleep well and %$#^%$#*^!!!!!!! Whens the new playstation comming out again????Read full review...

Great Game but takes a long time.....

I really like FFXI, it has a good community of players, usually 2500 to 3000 ppl on my server as of today, Most of them are very helpful and enjoy helping new players. It has nice selection of jobs and races to choose from and alot of items to aquire and lands to explore. The game it self is kind of slow, especially after you reach the higher levels. You could easily spend hours looking for a party or completing a mission. The story is decent but its the friends you meet that will keep you coming back. The world is massive and there is always something to do. Whether you want to party, level your weapon or magic skills, try new jobs, fish, farm or craft this game never really is boring. I personally put in about 240 hrs my first month ( yes, about 8hrs a day ! ) Thats the only real downside to the game. It just takes sooooo long to do things and level up. I guess you could look at this as getting more for your money but sometimes FFXI feels more like work that play. The graphics are done very well for a game that is a few years old. Dont expect "nextgen" visuals though. Also when you get up to 40+ the items you want are going to cost big money and that may put some ppl off because it will require alot of effort to raise that much gil. (Of course you can get all the AF gear by just completing certain missions but the uber gear is better). Overall I would recomend this game to anyone looking to play an MMORPG on their 360. You get all the expansions and It is a great value. There is also a monthly fee of $12.95 but that is common for most games like this. Like the warning at the beggining of the gamev says, dont let the game take over your life. But thats easier said than done. It give FFXI a 8 out of 10 because of the monthly fee, the dated graphics and the amount of time required to make it though the game. But despite these things, I really like this game.Read full review...

its ok not too great

Its an alright game only bad part is that you have to use a credit card for the online feature. and its the only way you can play the game. its actually a waste of money the graphics arent that good the online feature is sorta slow and the game will practilly take you a year just to beat . If you want to buy an rpg game get something like morrowwind aka elder scrolls its more worth your time then this game .Read full review...

great game for hardcore mmorpg gamers

This game is nothing like other ff games and unless you are planning to spend a lot of time on it, i wouldnt recommand it. I've been playing it on pc for 2 years now, and am planning on transfering my acc to 360. Its also out on ps2. the reason ive rated it 4/5 is that its an amazing game, but only for a specific type of gamer. It has a great community to it that is very helpful unlike games like diablo. (played that for 4 years) Only turn down of the game is the time it takes to get all updates and downloads and the fact that its $14 a month. The game will require you to have a usb keyboard for 360. I recommend getting a wireless one. The gameplay itself is very slow pace.
Its based on choosing a job (Warrior, Monk, Thief, White Mage, Red Mage, Black Mage, Bard, Beastmaster, Summoner, Dark Knight, Paladin, Ranger, Ninja, Samurai, Dragoon and Treasures of Aht Urhgan's expension 3 new jobs: Blue Mage, Puppetmaster, Corsair) and a race (the Hume, the Elvaan, the Galka, the Tarutaru and the Mithra). Each job has very generic abilities and each takes time to master. (looong time) The great thing about 360 version is that it already includes all the expansions in one. Once you are set with all that, you can jump into adventures although you'll spend lots of time lvling up at first wich can get boring. Passed lvl 10(you can get up to 10 in one day rl time) the gameplay changes and you get a choice of lvling up in a party where each member plays specific role in defeating a monster in order to lvl up. There are also guilds (goldsmith, alchem, woodworking, etc.) where you lvl up specific skills that help you make items and make gil (Vina'dielian currency). Vina'diel btw is the name of the world. (not world meaning server) Game is VERY addictive. (alike Everquest and World of Warcraft) And in style of final fantasy games, the story is really good. There are also other things such as notorious monster fights, many other great battles and other fun things that i dont have time to talk about in a review, so just pick up this game if you love rpgs and jump in.

SUX Very Bad

If there were any rating lower than one i would give the lowest one. This game is bullshit. First once you buy this game installation takes 3hrs or more and then once you install it the 30 day trail to play the game after that they charge you about $5 a month, which you need use your card. Let’s say it’s cool with all the previous hassle but here comes the worst’s part, Once you buy this game you can NEVER SELL IT and only way you can, you have to give them your ID which linked to your Credit Card means that when the Buyer plays the game online you will be charged, Until buyer changed it under his/her name (this is risky) & then let’s say you are will give Buyer the ID and you trust the Buyer, They still can't Play the Game cause Your Online ID is also Linked Your Xbox Live ID. This simply means that you have to give them You Live ID too. The Registration CODES to Create ID can be used to create ONLY ONE ID per Game. SO once you play this game you are IT.

I highly recommend not buying this Game. It is worse than Shit. I am telling you from my won experience. I have lost $50 for buying this game, I am really upset. I sold the game to someone than I had given them the Refund because i was not aware of that. I have contacted the Manufacturer spend hours on the phone they said it would be the best to let the Buyer new game. So what’s the point of selling the game? WOW they also charge you about $5 a month. Total Waste. If you think that this game is good for you, you are a lucky person to like that kind of game. I hope you guy and girls learn from my mistake. Go here and find out if you don't believe me: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml
Bye all!

Final Fantasy XI : Tops Most Online Games

Game Statistics:

Platforms: PC, PS2, X360
Developer: Square-Enix
Genre: Massively Multi-player Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG)

Criteria:

Graphics: 10/10
Storyline: 9/10
Ease of play: 8/10

Review:

For most Final Fantasy fans, this installment is going to turn a plethora of heads. Unlike the other games, this one forces you to get along with other players to advance through the storyline. For most, this would be somewhat of a flaw; However, there is the benefit of revealing the storyline with others who enjoy the series as much as the next person.

Like most MMO's, you have a choice of selecting your characters race, attributes, and occupation. However, in certain MMO's like World of Warcraft (WoW) and Guild Wars (GW) you're restricted to playing only one class per character. Final Fantasy XI (FFXI) gives you the option of changing your job from a damage dealer, to a healer when the time comes that your party would need it. This is a huge benefit due to the fact that finding players to play with seems very scarce.

The population of players in the game varies from time to time due to the fact that this game discriminates prepubescent smack-talkers, since mastering the game mechanics involves you actually trying to learn how to play the game. If you can commit to it, you get the hang of the mechanics pretty early on, especially if you're like me who uses trial-and-error methodology to learn how to play the game.

An average amount of players that you meet in the game are mainly focused on playing the game. This is a plus for players who actually want to get stuff done, but for those who like to meet people over the internet also have the option of going to the chat rooms accessible from the startup menu.

Overall, this game tops off most MMO's due to the fact that there is a much more pleasant environment and epic storyline. However, due to the enormous amount of effort you actually have to put into this game, it hardly seems worth it. If you have a special gift of being extremely an efficient player, you will enjoy this game more than anything. Average gamers wouldn't think so otherwise.

Long story short: It's a dime among nickels in the MMO community.

Hope my guide helped you establish a decision on buying this great game!
