A CRACKING STORY WITH FABULOUS ACTING
I already own a few Doris Day films. Always liked her. After reading her life story and how much tragedy she had, it was amazing she made so many great films.
This film, the story of Ruth Etting, is not a musical in the usual sense. It shows the depth of Doris's acting. Better still is the part played by James Cagney, playing the part of her controlling and dogmatic husband. In part it is a reflection of Doris's own life. It was a step out of character for Doris and in some ways for Jimmy Cagney. But he still manages to give a look to camera, that reminds you he was and always will be an angry villain. I love the songs, especially Love or Leave me, that comes right at the end of the film.
