Reality, humour and recipes - a great combination

Having bought this book for my daughter and read numerous positive reviews, I bought a copy for myself. I'm so glad I did. Helen writes with lyrical beauty but never pretentiously. Indeed, the reality of growing up in a farming community and marrying a local farmer is portrayed with humour and grit in equal measures. There are no punches pulled when writing about the limitations of upbringing and its effects on this particular woman and her choices. As a non-career woman who has valued her own contribution to family life and finances in a way that can't be quantified, it's refreshing to hear the views of another woman who has chosen to eschew the pressures on modern women to be and 'do it all', and instead to value herself and her contribution, whilst going against the flow of the societal push to excel in a career as well as bring up a family.
