Not as bad as it looks
Wow. I was expecting over-the-top fantasy silliness, and this didn't disappoint. All the same, I had a hard time keeping up.
It's not that the plot is too convoluted or anything; evil conqueror summons demon, gets what he wants, betrays said demon. Survivor of conqueror's....conquering plots revenge, as does demon. Decent two-part story.
Where this one falls apart a bit is in the characters. Acting is mostly passable, but so many factions, friends, foes, and betrayals pile up that it's hard to get invested in any way with anyone beyond the main few characters. I kept expecting things to wrap up, only for a new twist to keep things rolling. It just needs a couple scenes/characters trimmed to reach proper C-tier status.
That said, there's a lot to like here: hammy villains, a pretty fun banquet-hall battle, a gimmicky sword, and solid costume and set work. It's no Ladyhawke, but definitely worth watching.
Transfer quality is surprisingly good, and I can't argue with the sound either. All in all, worth the price.Read full review...

I remember staying up late to watch this movie as a child. Violent movies back then were only allowed late night on tv. A remake would be nice! 🙂
