McCloud

The reason that I got this DVD was that my uncle the actor Gavin Hamilton was featured in “The Night of the Shark “ which was filmed in Australia where He lived. Although he was featured in other productions they are alas unavailable at this point. So it is the only means that I have to remember him by. When he was alive he shared with me about his involvement in this production and came to the conclusion that he was not a very great fan of Dennis Weaver. I thought that they all did a good job and found it most entertaining.

Classic 1970s US TV show

Finally we have all the McCloud episodes all in one box set. This is a huge set so obviously have not watched it all yet but so far the picture quality is quite acceptable. There are no extras with this set (unless your count the four in one episodes which are on a separate disc) but it does come with subtitles. I tested this on the first episode and noticed that it's out of synch in some places - the subtitle comes up before the actor has spoken his or her lines. Haven't tested any other episodes but at least the subtitles are there for anyone who needs them.
Thankfully VCI have come up with the idea of placing the discs in a soft wallet enabling the consumer to easily slide the discs in and out of the packaging (see photos). Some multi-disc box sets cram several discs onto a very tight fitting spindle which greatly increases the chances of the discs cracking while trying to access them. The wallet set fits nicely inside the sturdy plastic case. It also has a cardboard slip case (which I forgot to take a photo of, sorry, but it simply replicates the artwork on the DVD box itself).
One last thing - if you're buying this outside of the North American continent you will need a multi region DVD or multi-region blu-ray player as these discs are region 1 'locked'.
So, "there you go" (as McCloud would say...)

At last! The complete McCLOUD on DVD!

I always loved Dennis Weaver as Taos, New Mexico Marshal Sam McCloud. This long-awaited box set includes the entire run of the series, which was an anchor for the NBC Mystery Movie in the 70s. Every episode is here, from the nearly two-hour pilot movie to all the regular ones to the original "Four In One" one-hour episodes that ran in the fall of 1970. The McCloud episodes ran in order for six weeks in September and October, and then those six were edited into 95-minute episodes for syndication. The series proper began in September of 1971 within the NBC Mystery Movie "wheel". Now, to the DVDs: they look as good as you can expect for a 50-year-old TV series. Good picture and sound, even on a 65-inch TV screen. The image is squarish, just as it was shot. A nice bonus is not only the reunion movie THE RETURN OF SAM McCLOUD from 1989, but the original 50-minute "Four In One" episodes. They are pretty rough in spots, but very, very watchable. I suggest watching the two episodes individually before watching the edited for syndication version. Pretty nifty to see what was left out to fit two pretty different stories together (and the ADR to bridge the two)! All in all, it's about time the Marshal rode back into our DVD libraries. Thank you, VEI, for partnering with Universal to finally get McCLOUD on DVD.
There ya go!

fish out of water drama-western

I first watched McCloud as part of NBC's Four in One programing in the 70s. Like the Night Gallery, it was spun off as series in its own right. The series is a drama "fish out of water"
where you have the character McCloud from Taos, NM deal w/the concrete canyons of NYC. Read full review...

Fantastic police series

It's amazing because it is one of the best police series that was made in the 1970s. They just do not make police series like this anymore.
