A great sounding headphone is just a few mods away

For the price the Superlux HD662 Evo is a good sounding closed-back headphone. However due to it's low price it's worth making some simple modifications to improve the sound. Swapping to the velour pads makes a big difference to the FR, but removing the inner felt on top of the driver, it's glued in place, replacing with 2 plys of toilet paper and blocking off 4 of the 6 holes as per diyaudioheaven website made a useful fix for high frequencies spikes. I did it, so no special skills needed just some confidence and the fact that if you really screw up you've only lost £35 but you'd have to be pretty ham-fisted.

The headphone clamp is quite strong and I have a small head but it does make for a good seal and will loosen over time. The velour pads are a little scratchy so I've ordered a pair of Brainwavz XL pads which are also a little deeper so the FR will likely change again.
