Top quality lens

The major superiority of Canon over any other brands is that you can own these kind of lenses.

Canon 24-70 L f2.8 ii
PROS
1. Sharpness in every focal length and at any focal length
2. Beautiful contrast
3. Great colors
4. Fast AF
5. Great control of flares
6. Lighter than it could be for this focal length
7. Build like a tank
CONS
1. It's quite silent when focusing but I expected totally silent focus motor
(e.g. My Canon ef-s 18-135 3.5/5.6 STM is totally silent when focusing)

P.S. It is very important to use cameras MICROADJUSTMENT so you can get the most out from the lens.

The 'It Lens' for all Canon DSLR users

The Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens is actually the most functional all-range zoom lens, and possibly the best upgrade from normal DSLR kit lens. Be it for landscape, portrait, wildlife, indoor or fine art photography, the image quality of Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens is excellent, bringing superb colour saturation and sharpness.

If you are wondering whether you should upgrade a Canon Camera body or a Canon L-series lens, I will say the latter - the lens determines better image quality, whereas the camera determines image capture/processing.

In fact, I am still using my Canon 400D and Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens is a huge upgrade itself. Try this lens at your nearest photography stores for a personal shooting experience.

The drawback of this lens is that it can be heavy (990g) and quite expensive. However, the image quality boost, zoom range, flexibility and solid build easily overcomes all negative points.

If I have only one lens, this will be the one - although some may prefer Canon EF 24-104mm f/4L USM Lens for even bigger zoom range but smaller aperture range.

Verdict? You will not regret buying one.

I bought this as its a wide angled lens for group photos , Weddings , Parties and any other time I want to take wide shots. Its heavy whilst hand held but actually OK ! I knew this before I purchased it. I bought it second hand and am very pleased it was in great condition ! Looking forward to using it more . My friend has the Sigma of the same values and said get the Canon lens as it is better , so I did ! The Sigma is good as well if you cant find the Canon one to suit your budget .Read full review...

if you can afford this lens-buy it.

i had read lots of reviews about this lens, all positive.i use a crop sensor camera and using this lens is fantastic for portrait work.very fast and quiet focussing.really sharp images.mostly use it for landscape/seascape work.faultless.extremeley happy with this.it is a "l" series lens from canon and this is reflected in the price.balance this up against the qaulity and feel,it is well worth the outlay.one slight downside is the weight, thought this has to be expected with the build quality.overall, delighted i took the (financial) plunge and secured this lens for myself.there is always the canon "l" series envy amongst my photographic friends.a nice bit of kudos.Read full review...

Great all-round L-series lens for the serious photographer

I wanted to take my photography to another level and so decided that I should invest in a L-series lens. The 24-70mm is a great all-round lens and you get excellent image quality results. This is still dependent on the photographer knowing how to use the camera to ensure focus, exposure and composition.
The lens is on the heavy side (almost 1kg) but that is a small price to pay. I have marked this 5/5 for value for money based on the fact you are getting a fast L-series lens (f/2.8) for under £1000, and not against the fact that you can get a Sigma or Tamron lens for less money. The image quality you get from this lens leaves the others way behind.

Faultless

I bought this lens primarily for wedding photoggraphy. I use it on a Canon EOS 7D. Many reviews I have read mention the weight of this lens as a negative and yes it is heavier than most at this foacl length range. However I think that the lens feels very well made and strong with fantastic image quality. I have this lens and camera in hand all day the only time it really feels heavy is when round my neck not when I'm shooting. I am very very pleased with it and would definitely make the same purchase again.Read full review...

Top lens

Ok its a bit pricey but like all things, you get what you pay for. This has become my main lens as it has a useful range for most everyday subjects. There is a noticable difference between this and the standard kit lens. The colours and saturation are much better and of course the f2.8 is great for low light work. The pictures are sharper too. What doesn't it do? Well there is no IS (stabalising) but I haven't missed it- probably more noticable and useful on a longer lens. So overall yes its expensive but holds its value more than other 3rd party manufacturers or canon's non L lenses and it doesn't have IS. If you can live without it (I can and lets face it, IS is a fairly recent innovation and has not made any photographers great) and you can afford it you won't be dissapointed.Read full review...

Lovely lens - very useful bokeh

Cracking lens - and as usual if it's been well looked after, then it still delivers like a brand new Canon product. Great landscape lens, but copes with portraits too. Great f stops.

A lens that will pay for itself

Like new, even the box was in perfect condition. A lens that will pay for itself. It is so sharp. A well constructed piece of kit with smooth focus and focal length rings.

Must have lens in your kit

This is one excellent all round lens, great for portrait photography and landscape photography, 2.8f is the best to go for as offers more light in low light conditions. Also it offers excellent wide angle reach, which is what you need for landscape, then a zoom for portrait, at the right f stop there is excellent softness to the background. This is an L series lens so it’s canons best as all L series are.Read full review...
