GOOD STM LENS FOR STREET WORK

There has been much reviewing of this lens. For the price, I give it full marks for the almost silent focus motor, the light weight and the sharp images. It's fine for street work and i can leave my 18-135mm in the bag whilst street shooting. If you drop this lens, it's not the end of the world-no mortgage required to buy a replacement.. All plastic construcion? so what? Less wear on the camera body. The near silent motor is a boon for video work in all situations. Recommended 100%.Read full review...

Get your light right.

It is quite good value at the price. The fact it comes with a lanyard makes it less easy to lose and so it can be left attached to one's camera strap or one's wrist.. It will fit any lens with a 58mm. diameter and could also be used on an analogue SLR with the same diameter lens to serve as an incident light meter making it a very useful photographic accessory.( The fact that you ask is the image sharp is not a relevant question as it is used to determine the white balance or the incident light falling on the subject being photographed ,therefore it is not a filter to photograph through.)Read full review...

Far superior to its predecessor at a price-point that makes it a no-brainer

Much better than the non-IS kit lens, but strong barrel distortions at 18mm and high vignetting at 18mm at f/3.5. Flimsy construction.

The review which prompted me to buy this lens over the non-IS version stated: "There were a few moments when I considered not to publish the results due to 'political correctness' because to date it was a quite absurd thought that such a cheap, or better 'affordable', lens can perform this good and I'm sure that some will not believe the findings even though they're supported by the published field images. Anyway, the resolution capabilities of the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is nothing short of amazing. This is also surprising regarding the rather small changes in the optical design compared to the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II."Read full review...

Goodbye Nikon

I am a lifelong Nikon user, but having acquired a Sigma 10-20 Canon lens, I was moved to buy an older EOS 500D to use it on. I have to say, not only does the camera outperform my later Nikon DSLR, it's more user friendly and intuitive and this standard 18-55mm lens that I bought recently - at an amazing price - is brilliant. The addition of IS to this latest version makes all the difference, so much so that my Nikon kit is going. Should have looked at Canon years ago!! Highly recommended for both performance and price.Read full review...

Vast improvement on earlier versons of this lens.

I have used three of the earlier versions of this lens, which were decidedly poor. This version is light years ahead of the earlier ones and well worth buying. The image quality is superb but the main difference is that the zoom is so much smoother. Also focusing is brilliant.Read full review...

EF lens to buy again.

Very sharp images with the use of my 77D canon Body. Fast and quiet focus works also perfect for video. Easy to handel. Needs a little more light inside the house but with the sensitive sensor of the 77D body no problem.Read full review...

Lightweight but effective.

The nicest of Canon's kit lenses for aps-c cameras.
Silent autofocus motor and non rotating front element make this the most sophisticated version of the 18-55 lens often supplied as original equipment.
Has a mostly plastic construction but the result is a lightweight and effective stabilised lens with perfectly good performance for everyday photography.

Exactly As Described

I bought this not expecting much from a second hand lens. However, it's in as new condition and works perfectly on my Canon 600D camera. The photos I've taken have been great quality.

My only criticism is that the lens doesn't feel very substantially made, so time will tell how durable it proves to be.Read full review...

Useful for close up photos

The lens focuses well and covers a useful range of coverage, mainly for small group photos. For the price I paid I felt it well worth it.

Kit lens update

Fantastic quality compared to the original 18-55 kit lens I got with my old 350d. Makes my old camera useable again.
