Safe and fast way to cut Kindling and split a few logs.

I do not use an Axe to cut kindling since a nasty incident (that could have been a lot worse) a couple of years ago. I now only use this type of splitter with a large lump hammer. Not only is it MUCH safer its also faster and more efficient. I have 2 from another seller but their price went crazy so when I was looking for a 3rd (as I now split logs in 3 different locations) I bought this one. It is, if anything, marginally better and I prefer the rubber safety cover. You will never break this splitter. It's cast steel. Will just need tye occasional dressing tk keep it sharp. Just make sure your logs are at least an inch or so taller than the splitter to keep the hammer off the blade. The photo is 5 mins work with one of the other splitters. Read full review...

Great

As an alternative to much more expensive and better looking products, this performs really well. Its not beautiful like some of the wood cutting products out there and there are some defects in the casting. If I had it my way the cover/guard which covers the blade would be made from rubber so clumsy placing would not damage the blade. However! It works. Its a tool to do a job and it does it really well. I have now got 2 piles of kindling with not much time spent. I have used axe's to split logs into kindling but this is by far quicker. I would recommend this to anyone who has a wood fire. Cheers.Read full review...

Excellent approach for log splitting

I had a bit of trouble splitting logs into small pieces, as had to spend a lot of energy with axe, and systematically missing the target. Now it is so easy and even my wife does it with a hammer but mates of an axe. This is definitely a great invention.Read full review...

Pocket money.

My ten year old is now earning her own pocket money. Wouldn't trust her with an axe. Good sized bag of kindling in 10 mins. Easy!

Good product for safe kindling making

The axe splitting base works well once the technique has been aquired. The log to be split needs to be dry and straight grained and splitting must start from an edge, rather than trying to split a log in half first.
The protective cap would be better made of plastic, which can be slipped in the pocket whilst splitting. The supplied cap is heavy steel, for no real benefit. It also must add to the totalcost which is rather high for a simple casting. The choice of hammer is important to maximise the safety aspect.

Works well

Have used various methods in past and this is my fave now. I fixed it to a scrap piece of 4x2 to clamp into workmate. Another couple of bits of pallet wood at 90 degrees so it just drops in b4 clamping and hey poncho! Saves space on actual workbench. They say waist height, but hip height better for me as saves arm fatigue if doing lotsRead full review...

What a revelation!

What have I been doing all my life using the Mark1 axe & not this gadget?? No more weilding the heavy axe only to miss the target & having to avoid the axe following through to preserve my toes!!! No more bending over to pick up & rebalence the remaining log on the block or having to go off to pick up the picese that have flown off. So much easier & safer than the Mark 1 axe. WHat are you waiting for? Get ordering...Read full review...

brilliant tool

This product makes short work of producing Kindling and coped very well with unseasoned Logs, Worth every penny because it is so much quicker, safer and easier than using an axe.

Does the job!

Just what we needed! Used it to make small pieces of kindling and smaller logs for our pizza oven. Heavy duty, does the job. Fixed it to a large stump of wood we had. Brilliant
