Fully functional, one small drawback

This cable works fine with my mid 2013 Macbook Air. I soldered it to the circuit board in the charger as my old cable was frayed at both ends. The cable itself is flexible and looks much like the old one, it sticks well in the maglock and fit the charger perfectly. Time will tell what the quality is like.

My only remark is that the little windows for the LED:s in the connector are not covered like on the original cable. In this substitute cable they're tiny holes open into the circuit board in the connector. This may make it more sensitive to intrusion from spilled fluids and the like... You can probably put in a bit of transparent glue to cover this hole up. Read full review...

SORRY APPLE, THE SCAM IS OVER

This product is a god send. Very high end materials, the light indicator, the cable coating etc. But most of all it saves you from giving Apple another $100 for a new charger, when the electronics are still fine. A despicable tactic by them btw, creating this obvious Achilles heel. I have had many of these chargers fray their cables like no other supposedly high end item.

Check Youtube for videos on how to install. My advice is to skip the whole soldering to the board (requires extra dismantling) and just splice the cables together. There's enough room to to this, and it makes the job far easier. Simply use shrink sleeves around the cables.

Great price compared to buying a new power supply

If the cable breaks on a Mac MagSafe power supply, Apple recommend throwing the power supply away and buying a new one. This is sensible, because Apple know the quality of their products. It's also expensive, and the old one is perfectly functional - it just needs a new cable.

To fix the power supply involves breaking open the power supply case, safely doing soldering on the internal cables, then fixing the case (e.g. with superglue). There are instructional videos online. If you don't know what you are doing, or you aren't comfortable tinkering with power electronics, you probably want to avoid this one, and buy a new power supply from Apple instead.

power up

My macbook would not charge...I thought there was something seriously wrong.
I tried my daughters charger and hers worked...but it was not something we could share.
I saw this and bought it.Now I have the power.
I could have bought a generic charger, but sometimes they do not work.
I opted for this and I have no regrets.
It does the job...and there are no downsides to having a working, ready to go Macbook.

Wish I’d found one earlier.

Too early to comment on longevity. However, it seems to be the real deal. A welcome replacement for a ‘generic’ magsafe charger which charged ever more slowly, and eventually ceased to work. What I thought could be battery problems now seem to have been down to not using a genuine Apple charger for my obsolete but still functioning MacBook Pro.

Arrives in a plain brown box, rather than Apple packaging, which makes provenance uncertain. But it’s very clean, and meets the ‘as new’ description. The wires and the magsafe connector itself are tidily wrapped and in very good condition, which is important since these are the likeliest failure points.Read full review...

Great charger

My cord had started fraying badly and had been repaired endless times. Needed new one and this was so much cheaper than going directly to Apple. It is over 50% cheaper.

Item arrived and is exactly the same as my previous one. I swapped the cord over and works perfectly as expected.

Perfect fit!

I am no tecky person but did need to replace the power cable which was in danger of tearing off and rendering my Macbook Pro useles. I cracked open the Mac adaptor, made the replacement by using a soldering iron to detach the old cable and reattach the new.
