PL-680 - Don't hesitate!!

So, so glad I bought one of these PL-680 receivers. I opted for the 680 (instead of the other models) because it includes AirBand in addition to everything else and this is an area of interest to me. The radio looks and feels like a top quality bit of kit and mine came as a complete little 'package' with a few accessories in a lovely faux leather case.

The controls are easy to operate and the reception is quite fantastic considering the price and the frequency range. I was especially impressed with the SSB performance and can pick up allsorts of activity on the HAM Bands with the built-in antennas.

The radio includes two stands - one at the base to stop it being tipped over by clumsy hands and one to allow the radio to be leaned back at a 45 degree angle for desktop operation. I've tried the radio on external antennas too (a discone, a G5RV wire and an AOR SA-7000whip) and the radio wasn't overloaded but did benefit from a little attenuation with the wire. The best of all was with the AOR SA-700 (what a fantastic wideband antenna that is).

The radio can (IMHO) be a little heavy on the batteries, so it might be best to budget in some rechargeables. Other than that - BUY ONE NOW!!!Read full review...

With appropriate antennas the performance all round is pretty good. Including Ham Cw, Air band, AM FM and SW. With the one speaker which is relatively small the sound has the quality which one would expect, perhaps a little betterRead full review...
