Nice, bright tail light

Very good brightness and decent battery life, as noted in specs. A little learning curve for the on/off button and the flash program button as you have two dimensions of function covered here (frequency of flash and type of flash).
Have a Planet Bike turbo flash that is a year old or so and this is a little brighter and certainly has more distinct, observable patterns to catch attention of drivers.

Bright but battery life kind of short.

Battery life seems extremely short after charging. I only get about 4 -6 hours on a charge even with it set on slow blink. OTOH, it is very bright and noticeable even in full daylight which is when I do most of my riding.Read full review

The Current Winner for Daylight Use

This is the clear winner for use in day light. The only other brand/models that are in the same league are the Niterider Solas' which are heavier, more expensive and far less flexible. Compared with the other Cygolite Hotshots:
1) 100 - from straight on this seems just as bright but off axis and from the side the 150 is much brighter.
2) 50 SL - the beam pattern is much more directed to the rear only.
3) Micro 30 - I like the size and simplicity of this model so it would be my pick for nighttime use. During the day the beam pattern is more spread out than the 50, but from straight back it looks like there's three distinct LED's that are far less attention-getting than the searing single beam from any of the other models.

My only gripe is the single button used for brightness or flash rate adjustment which is hard to use: it alternates between increasing and decreasing, you never know which way it's going to go, and finding the setting you want involves a lot of trial and error. Fortunately once you have it set where you want it the memory mode will keep it there.

Great strobe features

I like the multiple flashing options, including strobe. This makes the light much more visible. Very bright. Easy to charge with USB.

The Hotshot Pro 150 is just right, not too much, not too little.

I keep trying others but keep coming back to this one. My little family has a small fleet of recumbent trikes that are tricky for motorists to see & recognize. The Hotshot 50's battery is too small and has no triple flash. The Hotshot 100's lens does not light up good enough in daylight, and features a USB mini outlet. The Hotshot 200 is just too much, and wastes battery. But the Hotshot 150 is just right, has triple flash, is bright enough in daylight, gets max battery life.Read full review

Cygolite makes great lights

Cygolite Hotshots are great lights with long battery life. I have a 25, 50 and now 150. This one has a micro-USB connection and more light patterns. I never leave home without one or two on my bike.

Great day taillight, mediocre battery life

Wanted to upgrade from my Cygolite Mini, which I loved, to a brighter light, hoping to catch the attention of a distracted driver when they were a little farther away. I immediately missed the silicone strap mount of the Mini but that was offset by the improved brightness. Unfortunately I came back from a four hour ride to find my new taillight was dark. I could ride all week with the Mini but I guess it makes sense a brighter light would use more battery power. Still the 150 seems like it could have benefitted from some more battery capacity. I tested four of the six modes on the factory intervals from fully charged to lights out with these results: Day Lightning = 12 hours / Steady Pulse = 8.75 hours / Zoom = 3.5 hours / Triple Flash = 6 hours. I presume Steady (really bright) is the one end of the advertised range at 2 hours and Random Flash (the dimmest and not very random for me) the apparently 210 hours (I didn’t have the patience). I like the light but would like it more with more battery capacity, a flexible mount and a more definitive switch. The Mini would give me warning pattern when the charge was low but I have yet to see that on the 150. Also I accidentally change modes more often than I switch it off which means cycling through the modes to get back where I want it be. That will probably improve with familiarity. Having said all that, I’d buy another if I had the same set of needs. The price is right, it’s really bright and dragging it in for charging more often ain’t the end of the world.Read full review

Cygolite Hotshot Pro 150 is fantastic

This rear tail light is awesome!! It is so bright that you cannot stare at it; but the purpose is to get auto drivers attention to be aware that you are on the road. You can't beat the price on this one, really worth buying. Will inform my biker buddies where I purchased this from. This was easy to install on my bike. Best little light I ever bought.Read full review

Best Tail Light Ever

I bought a 80 a year ago...I Have gotten more good comments from the riders of my group of how they can see my light!!!!!!!!. I take it off to charge after each ride. Put it back on after a couple of hours. It is a little different to figure out what is off & on but keep trying until you get it. No big deal...Bought a 150 because the black on & off came off my 80 & I put it back on then lost the tail light in my friends car. Chemo Brain!!! so I up graded to a 150..This a a great light.. I took the tail light off my on son's bike for a ride didn't compare. Came home & bought another one of these...love this tail light....Read full review

Works perfect for be seen

Test it outside to see how well it works, not inside. Inside it's just insanely bright. It looks ridiculous. But you need that in direct sunlight or it would be useless. In sunshine it's perfect. It's still retina searing bright if you look directly at it from arm's length. But from across a parking lot it is perfect. Especially when it's flashing there is no possible way on Earth a driver won't see this light from at least 100 yards behind you.

Before I put it on my bike I tested it more as a driver. I put the light on my front steps and sat back in my car to look at it. From inside my car (meaning behind the windshield) it was the perfect brightness. Definitely not blinding, but also definitely not too dim. Cygolite makes a 100 lumen and 50 lumen model of these. Get the 150. It will seem too bright when you turn it on in your living room. It's perfect for riding on the road in broad daylight conditions.

It will absolutely draw the eyes of drivers to you and alert them to your presence.

It's also a micro USB plug. (The same as every cell phone since about 2013) So every cord you already have will charge it. The 100 and 50 lumen models are micro USB.

The battery holds up well. Keep in mind that I don't use the constant on feature (always on red but with flashing bright red). I use the dim dim bright flash pattern. I haven't charged it since I got it. Probably about 2 hours of ride time and counting on the charge it came with out of the box. So the battery life if fine. (Night riding when you'll want the constant on with the flashing would be lower battery life)

The one thing I don't love it the mounting brackets. It comes with 2. A big circular one to mount it to your seat post and a small circular one to mount it to other parts of the bike frame. It's not easy to mount it to a rear rack, where I prefer it. I was able to make a solid mount using an old angle bracket. (Probably 50 cents at Home Depot if you buy a new one). There is also a separate mounting bracket for racks that have mounting holes built into the frame. But no matter what, you're going to have to do something extra to mount it to a rack than you can using the parts in the box.

The short version is....this light will get you noticed by cars and the battery life is fine.

I've also had 1 ride on wet road (not in a heavy downpour, but with the rear tired spraying it with standing water) and it worked just fine.

Best tail light for serious cycling

This is the best tail light ever. You can tone down the continuous light so that in a group ride, you don't blind your mates. I have two on my bike - one on the seat post and another mounted near the hub on the seat stay.
When I ride solo, I let both lights flash different patterns...you can't miss me - even in the daytime.
If you ride in shaded areas, the motorists can't see you if they are in the bright sunshine and you are deep in the dark shade...use a tail light - always - (or two) and be safe.

the battery life on this light is impressive as well - I haven't counted the hours, but I would say close to 15 hours of use between charges...I usually charge right after a ride, but with this light I can easily skip charging for two days in a row. The secure mount makes it super easy to pop it off to charge - push and slide and its off - slide down until it clicks and locks and it won't fall off...ever.

Not heavy, impressive battery life, super bright for cars, great patterns to choose from - adjustable brightness on the continuous mode...
