I think the title is very appropriate for the story.

Against all odds Kya survives. She proves herself to be a sensitive, intelligent, talented, artistic person despite what the town people think. And in the end she frees herself from the hurt and rejection from these people. I felt sorry for her as I read the story.....with the abuse and rejection, but yet felt proud of her strength to survive. Just to read of her deep love for the nature of the area was soothing. (By the way, I am from North Carolina....foothills of the mountains....between Asheville and Charlotte and I have visited the coast of NC!) It was fun to read a story written about my state.Read full review

Over hyped.

Got this as a PDF on E bay which I did not know when I ordered it. I had to read this on my desktop as it would not download to my Kindle. Very disappointed. Book was a light read. Loved the nature descriptions but felt the tale of a 6 year old surviving and growing up in the Marsh a stretch. The mystery was also simplistic and manipulated. Read this for book club and I suspect I will be in minority opinion. Read full review

Nature + Mystery + Coming of Age = Great Book

Probably among the top five books I have read in the past five years. Engaging characters, original plot and setting, wonderfully written. Could not put it down, then handed it over to my husband, who loved it just as much (and we typically read different genres). Read full review

You will be transported to days of the old south.

I'm a big fan of stories which are set in the 'old south'. So far, I've been captivated by the details describing the swamp, the shack and the cast of characters. I feel as if the author has transported me to the treetops and i'm observing the story as it unfolds.Read full review

Great title for this book !

This is one of the best books I have read in some time ! The author has done a lot of research on the Eco system in the story. She has also created very believable characters. The ending was an unforeseen surprise. I bought a second copy for my granddaughter because I know this will become one of her favorite books. I hope it is not long before there is a new Delia Owens book available !Read full review

Story of grit, tenacity and victory while overcoming the impossible odds.

Beautifully written, the author transports the reader into a most unusual setting. Right from the beginning one is as a fly on the wall absorbing the fear and horror of our heroine. I wanted to get my mother bear on, strap on a weapon and do a little damage on her behalf. But alas, she didn’t need any help which ultimately is the beauty of the story of survival as a child and as a woman. I loved this book from the beginning and even more at the end. Everything else in between is gloriously captivating.Read full review

It seemed there was action on every page. Loved it!

One of the very best books I have read over the years. I was born and raised near Asheville, NC, so I enjoyed the text every time the city was mentioned. Also, I read the book in 4 days, which is unusual for me.Read full review

Title refers to the marsh..

It was an awesome book. An epic story about a marsh girl who was left there on her own as a child, all the things that happened to her and people she met over the years. She loved her surroundings and all the animals, insects, birds, growths, etc. in the marsh. Some mystery is involved as well. A surprise ending. People who want realistic books will not care for this one
It was a good story...

Sharing loneliness and empathy

Have not been able to finish the book due to a family tragedy, but can not wait to begin reading it again. The author really makes you feel as if you were right there with this young girl. I found myself sharing her days with her.Read full review
