Maybe you didn't realise that your car has an air quality sensor. Or maybe you did and thought "so what". Well... on some cars the aircon system pays attention to the air quality sensor, and if it is broken the aircon system refuses to function.

This was the case with an Audi A4. The aircon system detects pollutants, fumes or exhaust from other vehicles, and automatically switches the air circulation system to recirculate the internal air thereby avoiding drawing in the potentially noxious fumes outside. With a broken sensor the system doesn't know what to do, so it does nothing.

The broken one turned out to be easy to find ... it kept blowing fuses. Inspection revealed that it was not mounted in the correct place and had burned out due to lack of cooling. So now my friend's car has a little bit of Porsche in it. The parent vehicle is irrelevant because the part number, the 8K0... number, is the same and is used in different vehicles. However the most important part is that his aircon is working again and that has been useful on a few days this summer.Read full review...
