Great Idea - now needs to be built up further!

For a long time I've been struggling to use my phone effectively as a mobile computing solution - after all, most mobile phones now have more computing power than laptops bought 5 years ago.

Enter the DeX, and now I've got a great device that will enable me to use my full keyboard, mouse and big desktop screen to do many of the things that I do frequently: email, brows the internet, review documents, etc. I really hope that more people start to use it because with more users, developers will increasingly tweak their apps for DeX.

The Grab'n'Go functionality is great - simply take your Samsung out of the cradle, and you're on your way. When in the cradle, DeX acts as a speaker and microphone, but if you need privacy, then simply remove your phone from the cradle. If you still need to work on something and have a private/confidential call at the same time, then a bluetooth headset would be needed.

Suffice it to say that if DeX has more apps optimised for it, Samsung will negate the need for anyone to have a laptop.

Should I only have given it 4 stars? I don't think so. It merits 5 stars because Samsung is producing something that works very well as is, and will be even better if there is more demand for it. I for one will use it daily.

Further developments that might be nice to have?
Replacing the Micro C dock with a magnetic contact system - so that there is less fiddling putting the phone into the cradle. After all, it is contactless charging, so there's no reason that it couldn't have an almost contactless cradle connection.
DeX cradle should have more USB ports: 4 USB ports would be ideal, that way you could have an external hard drive connected permanently.
The DeX cradle should have also have a second HDMI port: so a second screen could be used. I work with three screens at work, and not having a second screen at home is a pain. However, having a big desktop screen to work from is better than having a small 10' screen. No doubt about that.
As an opening gambit, this is an excellent first step. Now to continue making those steps and take it to the next level.Read full review...

Portrait, fine. Landscape nearly non-existant

Does what it says on the tin but there is an inability to twist the phone to landscape resulting in many apps only running in portrait mode. Very frustrating

Solid unit, worth buying used

Good device

I bought it to use in my van to write invoices on completion of the jobs that I had carried out I bought myself a 10 inch display and Bluetooth connected keyboard and mouse and everything works a treat, the only slight problem I have is that the text is slightly blurry on the edges but apart from that everything else is crystal clear, I would recommend anybody to buy one of these.Read full review...
