Mu Metal for Speciality Magnetics

Mu Metal is an excellent material for creating magnetic shields and audio transformers with broad frequency response into the ultrasonic range. I needed to replace missing head shields for some vintage floppy drives I was restoring and fabricate custom transformers to be used in the 40 kilohertz range. The Mu Metal sheets proved to be perfect for my application.

Easy to work with (cut and soldier) the dimensions gave me enough to do what I need to do. flexible to make it into a cylinder for 3-inch Photomuliphlier to shield it from the earth's magnetic field.
