Powerline - Absolutely necessary but not 100% reliable

Powerline is a great technology but is not completely reliable. Cat5/6 cabling is the best solution but can be expensive and messy to install across a property, although the cost of the actual cabling is insignificant. Powerline doesn't work so well when distances between devices is far and any disturbances in electrical power in the home (which are unnocitable to occupants) can affect the data stream. This set is reasonably good as it supports MIMO and higher throughput, which is necessary as the throughput drops significantly with distance. Using Powerline for streaming video devices such as Smart TVs is considered essential as they would normally hog too much radio traffic with WiFi (affecting other devices using the same WiFi network).Read full review...

OK but...

Easy to set up, but the power saving mode disconnects the pairing. Have to keep unplugging, replugging, repairing. Not good if you just want to use it. There is a lot on line about this and you can down load connection centre and reconfigure in theory, but I have struggled. Wanted to increase the network and it’s difficult to buy separate units , that are not a different version or refurbished. And there’s a lot of refurbished units on the market....Read full review...

Excellent Powerline Adapter

I bought this as a single to use with the two I already had (unfortunately they are only sold as pairs usually) and within 5 minutes I was up and running with a gigabit connection through to my PC.>
These are very easy to use and have been very reliable in the time i've been using them (about 2 years), allowing seemless streaming to my TV and good quality connection while gaming.

Overall I'd fully recommend these to anyone looking at powerline adapters, and I have used TP Link networking gear for many years without any issues. Another quality product from a top brand.Read full review...

Provides good speed, great features and your not losing a power outlet.

The TP-Link TL-PA8010P was purchased with the view to increasing the speed across my wired network and to extend the wi-fi to parts of the house that weren't covered. I have used TP-Link power line plugs for many years and still use two of the original ones I bought (TL-P201) about 10 years ago along with other models. They all work with each other but you can expect the speed from the older plugs only to deliver speed at the lower levels. The TL-PA8010P was easy to set up initially but as I have this connected to a VPN router, and my older devices to the Modem router (2 separate powerline networks), I had to disconnect each network whilst setting them up manually. This was via the management utility. This was simple enough (if you know what you are doing). Works really well. Speed is excellent although I am only with talk talk (38Mb max). I also go this at a knock down price as it was refurbished, so great value for money.Read full review...

Easiest network upgrade ever.

Truly plug and play. Unpack, plug in, and switch on. Bought 4 of these as an easy way to upgrade my sluggish home network. Now I get full potential from my fast fibre router. Smart TV gets smooth, no buffering, HD streaming. PC uploading and downloading at impressive pace. Big improvement to my little home network. Not cheap, but looks worth the money. 24/7 Devices, so durability remains an outstanding question. But, all great for the time being.Read full review...

Refurbished Powerline Plug Works Perfectly

Needing just one extra Powerline plug to attach my TV to the network, as wireless communication had fluctuating speeds and occasional pauses. Jibbing at the price of a brand new one, I purchased this, which arrived in immaculate condition and worked straight out of the box. It is linking my computer to the internet as I write this.Read full review...

Big unit, but fast and stable connection

The AV1200 passthrough powerline model is a lot bulkier than my old AV500 mini units, but that just means use an out of sight socket. The passthrough power socket means you don't lose a socket to other uses, and the connection using the MIMO is so much faster and more stable. Used to get ~300Mbps with AV500-AV500, with occasional drop outs, but with AV1200-AV1200, I'm getting ~1100Mbps and no drop outs - the internet performance is noticeably better. Even AV1200-AV500 is now nearly 400Mbps, and the AV1200-AV500 WiFi is much better performance and stability.
Very easy to plug in and connect multiple AV1200 units, but even older units (AV500 for example) are really easy to setup with the latest TP-Link utility; just type in the unit's code, and it is instantly added to the network, and with map of connections and performance. Great product, with fast connection, and now easier to setup. Recommended!

Easy to set up with two, 3 is a nightmare.

With two, dead easy, plug one into router plug other on in somewhere press pair on first then pair on second. Job done

However when I bought a 3rd a year or so later, just wouldn't pair. Spent about an hour faffing about to get it to work. Used the downloaded app from to link, had to reset all devices. Ended up moving all 3 into same room to setup and get working. I work in IT so I was ok at sorting it. But my Mum and Dad or your average user would be stuffed trying to set up 3 or more

In short anyone can set up a pair with no computer dead easy. Work well and not loosing a plug socket is great

Overall very good

TP Link Powerline

Great product and so very easy to set up. Had the 500 before and again added these to my new 1200 ones in minutes.
Although larger they still blend in and I like how they go to sleep when no call for the internet.

Highly recommended.

Extending a TL-PA8030P installation

I needed to extend my existing PA8030 installation and searched in vain for the single adapter PA8030. Saw the very good price for this refurbished item and ordered. Arrived on time and in as new condition. One PA8030 was working well in the office and I moved the other to the lounge to pick up three network cables from set top boxes etc. The PA8010 replaced the moved PA8030 and was connected to the BT router. I reset all three adapters (press pair switch for more than 15 secs until all three warning lights go out and then come on) and then pressing the pair buttons to pair two and again to pair the other two gave me a working network that has worked faultlessly for over a month. As a final touch I entered the location name and password into the Powerline desktop utility. All done and highly delighted.Read full review...
