Great series that has my teenager hooked!

I bought the DVD as a Christmas present for my daughter, who said she'd like to see the series, after watching the first episode at school in a lesson. She enjoyed it so much that she is now getting the second series and will probably go on to watch the whole show. Although it's an old TV series, it still has all the usual factors of a soap opera. With a young cast as the main characters, it will appeal to current teenagers. It also covers issues they can relate to and hopefully learn from.Read full review...

Scratched disc

Was great until we got to the last 2 discs of series 1 and they were scratched and would not load. Frustrating watching a series and then missing the end. Wouldn't recommend buying unless you want to watch half a series.Read full review...

I´+¢m 20 years too old to be enjoying this breathtakingly silly, empty and wonderful show, but judging by the reactions of other viewers no less wrinkly than me, I'm definitely not alone!

The OC - an existential masterpiece

Why do we love the OC? Does it remind us of our own priveleged upbringings; enormous mansions, infinity pools and all? I doubt the majority of viewers drive BMW X5s to school. No, I would argue that it's the heart-rending tales of the trials and tribulations of young adulthood that draw us in. This series has really captured the mood of a generation. Despite their looks and wealth there is an underlying tension to these teenagers. There is an all-pervading sense of helplessness and hopelessness to the series. This is THE modern existential story, Seth Cohen cast as the Camus of the noughties. It looks like Fitzgerald updated for a new generation. Join them in their quest for the meaning of life, love and the universe.

The series starts with Ryan, living with his mum and her abusive boyfriend, finding himself in trouble with the law. He is taken in by a wealthy lawyer with a heart of gold, and through living with his new family see a whole new side to life. The subtlety of the plot is wonderful as the street-tough Ryan becomes an innocent in this hedonistic yet baleful world. The series sees his journey over the next few months, the simultaneous repulsion and attraction of this new life.

Excellent stuff, highly recommended.

THE OC SEASON ONE THE BEST FIRST SEASON EVER!!! MUST BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is unbelivably the first series of the oc???????, the quality of this show feels like a long sucessful series unlike the first ever series of the show.

This season starts of with ryan, a a kid in trouble and simply needs a bit of guidance, but not getting any help from his mum and her abusive boyfriend,he lands up on the wrong side of the law. Then he gets taken in by a wealthy kind hearted lawer and his family, and he learns a whole new side of life.

This show has a great cast of young teenagers and adults, all of which getting in to some sanalous trouble at one point or another.

This series will have to laughing and crying equally. The storylines are very heartfelt and emotional at times but there are also some very funny plots and storylines.

The last episode ends quite weridly and quite emotional, but just remember there is another season....
.....and i know alot of people think the show reached it's peak at season 1, BUT AS A MASSIVE FAN OF THIS SHOW I CAN TELL YOU, THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE SHOW JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER.

ENJOY

Best ever TV Season!

This first season of The OC is, in my opinion, the best season of any TV show ever!! I remember the very first time I saw this show, I wasn't watching much on the TV at the time, nothing was grabbing my attention, and then wow, along comes this fab show and I am hooked!! I literally could not wait for the next weeks episode! Theres so many storylines covered in this first season, I think maybe they squeezed a lot in and then realized they didn't have as much for the second season (still fantastic though!) Ryan and Marissa are my fave TV couple of all time and there are wonderful moments between them here as well as awesome music!! Theres also comedy moments aplenty mainly from the likes of Seth and Summer, and also Marissas mother Julie!! But I guarantee you will be crying at the season finale!! YOU MUST ADD THIS TO YOUR COLLECTION!!!!Read full review...

Incredible series from start to end

Having seen some of the series before with a friend i decided to go ahead and take a gamble on buying this box set. I have in no way been disappointed. From the start of the series just meeting the characters through to the end i was gripped by the coming and goings at Newport beach. Having tried to watch some of the other similar programs such as One Tree Hill i can assure you that this is the best of the genre. The main characters, Ryan and Seth, have you screaming at them at points. Over all this series is amazing and is one that should not be missed given the chance to get it for a good price. I highly recommend it as a present for some-one anywhere in their teenage life.Read full review...

"the o.c." is the best teen soap

“THE OC” debuted in August of 2003 with the catchy headline “the best new show of the fall is coming this summer.” The season opens with two brothers Trey(Bradley Stryker) and Ryan Atwood(Benjamin McKenzie) about ready to steal a 1979 camaro off the street. Ryan, the younger of the two doesn’t know if it’s a good idea but Trey convinces him otherwise. The cops begin to tail them and eventually send them crashing into a dumpster. The boys are sent to juvi where the court puts Trey in jail for 3-5 years, because he had possession of cocaine and an illegal weapon. Ryan however is met by a lawyer named Sandy Cohen(Peter Gallagher). Sandy tries to work out a plan with Ryan in order to get him some help. Sandy gets Ryan out of juvi and Ryan heads home with his alcoholic mother Dawn(Daphne Ashbrook). Only to be kicked out of the house and thrown out on the mean streets of Chino. Ryan goes to a payphone and calls all the people he knows to stay until he can get a job. Everyone tells him they all have no vacancy. Good thing Sandy gave Ryan his card. Reluctantly Ryan calls Sandy and Sandy comes to pick him up. They head back to Sandy’s posh Newport home in California where Ryan meets his family. Sandy’s wife Kirsten(Kelly Rowan) is not welcoming the outsider very well. Nevertheless Kirsten lets him stay for the night. Meanwhile Ryan is having a smoke on the edge of the street where he meets the beautiful girl next door Marissa Cooper(Mishca Barton). Marissa and Ryan share a moment but its ultimately interrupted by Marissa’s boyfriend Luke Ward(Chris Carmack). The next day Ryan meets Sandy and Kirsten’s only son Seth(Adam Brody) who befriends Ryan. As the day goes on they share stories about their life and then head to a fashion show. Ryan soon notices that the seemingly perfect families in Newport aren’t so perfect. They all have problems including Marissa’s father Jimmy Cooper(Tate Donavan) who is Newport’s financial planner golden boy who has stolen all his money from his clients. Later Ryan heads to a party with Seth and defends him from some water polo players who want to kick his ass. They next morning Kirsten draws the line and tells Sandy to take him home. Sandy does as his wife says but only problem is Dawn is no longer there. The house is empty and only a note remains behind for Ryan. Sandy takes him back to Newport. After two days of more trials and tribulations of what is supposed to become of Ryan, Kirsten takes a chance and opens her home to the boy. The next episode Ryan is adopted by the Cohen’s and his arrival triggers a Newport wave of love triangles, generational conflicts, and more. It’s all happening under the sun in “THE OC”Read full review...
