A SHOCKER!!!

A TERRIBLE MESS!!! This boxset contains the notorious 30th Anniversary edition of Night of the Living Dead, which is a truly SHOCKING film for all the wrong reasons. Firstly, a new score has been added to the original 1968 movie which is too electronic & modern, it is also very, very annoying & it does not work with the movie. The picture quality is good, but the infamous 'new' 15 minutes of footage (unrelated to the original movie) is just RIDICULAS that it makes the movie UNWATCHABLE!!! The scenes with the vicar are so bad that it will probably make you cringe with horror, it is the worst acting you will ever see on film, EVER!!! Unfortunately, the re-editing isn't much better, parts of the movie do look like it skips & some key scenes are either missing or replaced. I haven't watched Dawn of the Dead since I already own the Ultimate 4 disc edition box-set & Day of the Dead wasn't a good film to begin with - it does start & end OK & there are some good (dated) special effects, but it is very, very TALKY for nearly an hour in between & their is just too much negativity & cursing. The characters in the movie are also very, very unpleasant that I ended up rooting for the zombies to eat ALL of them!!! Over-all, this box-set isn't worth buying - the extra's are CRAP & who-ever designed the box-set back cover put the pictures for Dawn & Day the wrong way around. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!Read full review...

Trilogy Of The Dead

As a huge fan of zombie films I was looking for something that would help suppress my appetite for a while, and this is what I found.

The first of the trilogy, "Night of the Living Dead (1968)", caused a massive uproar on its release in the 60's due to the never before seen content. The second of the trilogy, "Dawn of the Dead (1978)", was a massive hit of the 70's. The final of the trilogy, "Day of the Dead (1985)", was yet another big hit. For three consecutive decades, George A. Romero had produced a film that would shock the world, but each time leave the people wanting more.

As a fan of films I find the Dead Trilogy an excellent set of films to watch, and the bonus disc is an excellent addition as you can find out many things about the films... some surprising, or intriguing anyway... to me atleast. If you are not really a film fan with an open mind then this box-set may not be the thing for you.

As the films are the original films there are a few "bad" things, the special effects are poor by todays standards (although the stink that the first film caused in the 60's due to its content says different!), they have not been fully digitally remastered so they still have a slight grainy sound and image quality (which adds to the effect!), and finally, there were only three original films and its a shame there weren't more!

Trilogy of the Dead DVD 2002.

If you liked the original "Night of the Living Dead" you will love this 3 DVD Boxset. It also includes "Dawn of the Dead",and "Day of the Dead" which are basically colour updates of that movie made in the Seventies.

The Third DVD(Extra's) in the Box also includes an informal discussion between Director George Romero and his team about the making of "Night of the Living Dead" which is interesting, particually as they had to work on such a tight budget!.

Also the third disc also includes "Document of the Dead" which to me was less interesting, particually as it includes discussion about Romero's other films such as "Martin".

However, forget the extra's as this is all in all, a great Boxset which all lovers of Zombie movies(And Romero is the King!) will love!.
