'Lifesaver' is perhaps not the accurate word to use, but it felt like it, as it got me around the stupid design flaw in my old Porsche Boxter whereby if the battery runs flat (which it did due to my inadvertently leaving a USB Bluetooth device plugged in which drained the battery totally), while you can use key entry into the car itself, the bonnet release switch won't work, and the normal way of dealing with this via the fusebox connector to a jump battery didn't function either.
The beauty of this charger lay in the cigarette lighter 12V connector lead, which meant that I could charge up the battery fully via this and an external mains power connection, and also pop the bonnet and boot.
Left the charger plugged in trickle charging the battery for just over 24hrs, which restored it back to full capacity. Once there, the charger maintains the charge cutting in as necessary.
Progress of the charging cycle clearly visible via the indicator lights on the unit.
Next job is to extend the bonnet emergency release cable to somewhere hidden but accessible, as it's currently underneath one of the headlamp units which can only be accessed and removed if you can open the bonnet. Catch 22... Any Boxter owner will know what I'm on about!
Charger was a bit pricey, but it did include the cigarette lighter 12V connector lead, which other seller's didn't. A price worth paying in my view to get around the problem.Read full review...
