Best Animated Classic

If you're new to everything Watership Down and Richard Adams's world of rabbits, this fourteen-disc box set is for you. It follows closely with Adams's original two novels about the brave rabbit named Hazel and his maverick followers who set off on a journey across the English countryside to establish a new warren (Watership Down) and escape from a haunting premonition that is to become of their home warren of Sandleford. Not only must they face their natural predators along the way but too escape the menacing General Woundwort and his cohorts; a fierce rabbit who governs a secret society of rabbits of his own in a faraway warren known and feared as Efrafa, a place where lapine are ruled in militaristic fashion at the price of freedom—from independent thought, from enemies, from Man.

What makes this rabbit tale so grand is the believable world which Adams creates with his own colorful Lapine vocabulary in which the rabbits use, his unique twist of how rabbits perceive the world around them, and what is predominantly a spectacular cast of characters, the varying personalities of each rabbit that distinguishes them not only from each other but of a variety of themes of life and death. You will find that Hazel's world is very much like our own, filled with danger around every corner, and yet these tales will empower you with a seriousness unlike any other, so realistic and mischievous that you will sit on the edge of your sit to see what happens next.

I highly recommend Watership Down for family viewing, and especially for children.

A lighter view of Watership down...

This collection kept my kids glued to the screen! Both my 4yr old and even my 10 yr old loved it. They watched as many episodes a day as they were allowed . My youngest son much preffered it to the origional film which he found a little too scary at times with it's darker and more violent moments.
The only downfall would be the continuity errors part way through the series when some of the voices and the animation styles were changed.
Highly recommendable to all who love animation(and of course anyone who loves Rabbits!!)as well as the obvious fans of the first film.
A few words of caution though you may find youself singing "bright eyes" unexpectantly due to hearing it at the start of every episode, one of those songs that gets stuck in your head and can't be forgotten as easily as you would like!!
