DVD worked well and put the movie Failure 2 Launch on screen for me to see

The DVD was slow to arrive - we had a bit of a laugh about its failure to launch from the seller to our home, the film was not quite what I had imagined from the description given by my friend who recommeded it in reply to my joking about my 20 year old Son still at home, it was less about the issues which drove the parents to take extrodinary action and all about what happens once they have, the film following the antic's of the Son rather than the parents - it had some funny moments. I have seen the film now so would not buy it again - if you are looking for some light humour on a wet afternoon this may suit.Read full review...

Filled with biting humor

In today's society it is difficult for young men to see why they must leave home and trice out on there own adventure. Tripp (Matthew McConaughey) is one of those young thirty-five year old sons that are part of today's society. His parents Al and Sue (Terry Bradshaw and Kathy Bates) only want what is best for him and heir a professional (Sarah Jessica Parker) to help cut the apron strings.

Needles to say that all the things you expect to happen happens. What sets this particular movie above the standard the standard formula is the exceptional acting and the pacing is strange. And the gratuitous nude scene is more that a few flashes in the moon light.

In this film even the "B" story and the supporting characters get plenty of center stage. Kit (Zooey Deschanel) added a splash of normalcy.

The only downside to the movie is the annoying introductory song which is soon forgotten and mad up for with the appropriate exit songs.

Fab chick flick, ideal for a girly night in!

As a Matthew McConaughey fan this film was a must see for me and I'm pleased to say I wasn't disappointed! Sarah Jessica Parker isn't one of my favourite actresses but she manages a good performance as a therapist specialising in 'curing' men of their need to stay at home. Matthew of course plays his role of a man who sees no reason to give up the comfy lifestyle he has at home (with a mother who dotes on his every need) perfectly.
The friends and supporting cast make the film a fantstic watch too, well worth a couple of hours of anyone's time. If you're after something to watch on a girly night in or with a box of chocolates and a glass of wine then it's perfect... just enough soppiness to make it a romantic comedy but not too much to make you want to reach for a sick bucket. The only thing I would say I dislike about the film is the fact it's not long enough: there are several story lines that could be enhanced by an extra ten minutes like the friends relationships and the antics of the parents when he finally leaves home!

Funny Romantic Comedy..

Matthew McConaughey is Tripp, a 35 year old who still lives with his parents. And who can blame him? It's free, he's got a great room and mom (Kathy Bates) does the laundry. Desperate to get him out of the house, his parents hire a gorgeous woman, Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker), to give him a little...push. They just didn't expect Tripp would push back!

In this romantic battle of wills, there's no place like home...

de ja vu but still worth a watch

If you liked How to lose a guy in 10 days you'll love this! to be honest the storylines are extremely similar in they way it is written. ie: Tripp falls in love with Paula (the woman whose pretending to be in love with him so that he will move out of his parents home) at the end they actually fall in love with one another, its predictable but still makes a pretty good film, its funny, has great stars so definitely worth a watch. i dont think its as good as how to lose a guy in 10days tho, that was classic. i even thought this could be a second film following as there so similar just a different storyline.Read full review...

Failure to Launch

In stark contrast to most of the reviews, I have to say that this is a really poor film!

As a fan of Matthew McConaughey I'd expected much more, and perhaps it's time for him to take a rest from churning out Rom Com's and return to some more serious acting. The plot is see through, jokes obvious to point of ridiculous and acting so wooden it would make Pinnochio jealous. Above all, the film was blatantly made to cash in on the success of 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 days' - a great film. But, alas, 'Failure to Launch' is not ...Read full review...

good movie

Besides the fact that hiring a woman to play with your son's affections is cruel, the strategy is made more implausible by a series of ill-concocted scrapes. One of few legitimately funny moments sees Paula seduce Tripp within earshot of his parents. But generally Astle and Ember fail to find the laughs inherent to his situation. On top of pratfalls, they have him attacked by critters to bolster some silly notion about man's defiance of nature, then a revelation about his past comes out of leftfield in a lame attempt to tug the heartstrings. With a deadweight script and low wattage generated by McConaughey and Parker, this was never going to take off.Read full review...

typical chick flick

Typical chick flick, identifies the problem, everything looks peachy and then something goes wrong and half an hour later all is well and everybody lives happily ever after! Worth a watch if you manage to grab it at a bargain price off ebay but i wouldnt spend more than a few pounds or bother buying from a shop! Matthew Mcconaghey and Sarah Jessica Parker act quite well together in this film which makes it more believable and slightly better but its one of them films you watch when there is literally nothing else for you to do. Dont spend more than around £3 or your buying a 1 way ticket to dissapointment.Read full review...
