A very good phone system with a few caveats

I have owned a few cordless phones. I seem to always be on a quest for the perfect cordless. This phone is very good, but not perfect.

First things first, this phone is older and was manufactured years ago. It is no longer in retails stores, so it is usually an older device.

This phone seems well-built physically. The plastic seems solid, never flimsy. All buttons work well, and are long-throw. That means they travel a certain distance long that you can tell whether the button has been pressed or not.
The parts fit together perfectly. The LEDs, LED readout and are clear and very bright.

Sound quality of the base speakerphone seems just fine. Volume is plentiful and there are no issues with duplex (both parties being able to speak and listen at the same time).

Sound quality on the handset is not bad, but it is fairly tinny compared with the other Uniden I use. The difference may be because the other Uniden is larger, and so has room for a larger speaker. Typically the larger the speaker, the lower the frequencies (such as lower midrange) the speaker can reproduce. Some people say 5.8GHz has better sound than this 2.4Gz phone, but I'm not sure that's the reason for sound improvements. This phone does not use D.E.C.T, so if you're looking for that, you may want to move on.

The phone's handset is slightly small, compared to the ones I'm used to. I have fairly small hands, and I still have a tiny of trouble holding this due to its small size. I wonder if it wasn't tested on people with smaller hands. The keypad buttons on the handset light up brightly when you are about to dial. The handset display is, like many of its generation, a bit hard to read. Probably very hard if you're older or vision-impaired. The low-contrast and chunky (fewer pixels) characters on a black background combined with poor choice of font design (probably limited by the LCD display itself make for challenging reading.

Cordless range has been good so far for me, with about 30-70 feet having been used. No static, no dropouts, no problems. Several times I took it outside and the sound, with the radio link going through the brick walls/windows in the house seemed to be just the same as when I was inside.

Battery life, for me, has been quite good. I believe I'm getting about 7 hours of talk time, but this is considering the fact that I bought the phone used (thank you Ebay.)

All in all, this is a good quality phone, and I'm picky when it comes to these sorts of things. I admire Uniden for usually making what I consider very good quality products at reasonable prices, and backing them up with their warranty.

Enjoy.
