It is a heartwarming show and the characters could be people we knew if we had lived back then. It is a time when England was just getting back on it's feet after the war and shows how difficult it was at times, but also shows how people came through the tough times and made do with what little they had. I started watching call the midwife, not realising there have been six series made & more to come. But it's well worth it. Absolutely stunning piece of tv drama. nuns and women

As it happened, I had an accident in viewing this series on TV as you do at times. I love the series. I now own both season 1 and season 2. It being based on a young woman's diary only encouraged me to watch it more. You may think that once seen (babies being born) that's enough. You could not be further from the truth if you tried. Babies are born, yes, but life goes on around these occasions. Life with it's usual twists and turns. Women all living together in a convent, and yet cattiness had not yet been invented. The midwives and nuns got on extremely well. The nuns were not the prim and proper women of God, but normal down to earth people. It held laughter and tears and so much more.
