Probably the best and most dynamic turntable in the world..

The original and probably one of the greatest turntables in the history of the vinyl record.

The 1200 Mk-II (Silver) and 1210 Mk-II (Black) are hard-wearing turntables for both audiophile and DJ use - the latter speaks for itself with nearly every club using these, earning the the name 'industry standard'.

The high torque motor and quartz controlled speed are practically unrivalled and these turntables are the benchmark against which all other turntables are judged.

I have used many turntables in my years as a DJ and these are always my first choice. I predominantly use mine for DJing, using Ortofon Nightclub 'E' cartridges and the 'S' shaped tone arm, my brother on the other hand who is more of an audiophile has replaced the tonearm on his for an SME 309 straight arm and uses a AT33EV Cartridge (not cheap but sounds fantastic.)

If you want one of these be quick, they are out of production, you could probably get a MK-3D or a Mk-5 somewhere, but the original 1200 Mk-II is just, well, original.

Technics SL1200, Amazing Kit, Surpasses all Expectations.

It’s a common misconception that the 1200 series of turntables are ‘DJ Decks’. It’s true that DJ’s love them for the high torque direct drive motor and sliding pitch control but they were never specifically designed for that market.
Instead they are simply an incredibly popular model in the outstanding Technics SL range of turntables. I count myself very lucky to have found this stunning and unmolested example. Originally purchased as a jewel to sit on top of the rack for occasional vinyl listening, I quickly found that it could be far more than that and started experimenting with various cartridge combinations. Audio Technica are a great place to start for matching 1200 carts, several will do a fine job and I finally settled on an AT740ML, possibly a touch heavy but the addition of the auxiliary weight to the counter balance soon brought everything back into the right place.
I absolutely love this deck, I love the sound and I also love the torque but for very different reasons - I can place a record cleaning brush on it without it stalling! It also means it can take a heavy turntable weight with no effect on the speed.
I didn’t think I would see the day but my listening is shared equally between vinyl and streaming now, it’s that good, all my new music purchases are now vinyl, superb piece of kit.

A modern classic that deserve's it place in the science museum

I have over the years collected a lot of these turntables, why you might ask? Well to put it simply, they are by far the best manufactured tuntable in the world, sure they suffer from some minor electronic faults over time, but I have found that the main deck system is a perfect platform on which I build my own tone arms, the issue with original arm is not as bad as some people try to make out - (inner track distortion.
There is a very usful sight called vinylengine.com in which there is much information regarding engineering solutions to these problems. As regards to our most loved SL1200/10 MK2 they are very highly appreciated by audiophiles as reference decks - there build quality and density of this product is truly a work of art - the inner deadening material and heavy rubber bass is a large contributing factor in the smooth sound quality of this deck, second to this is the motor system used - a contactless motor - the centre spindle will go on for years if it is regularly oiled - sewing machine oil.
the quartz speed lock on this deck is very accurate. in the past i have even purchased some ex night club decks and was surprised they still work as well as they did, as another reviewer stated - they truly are built like tanks. one down side to this master piece is that new spare parts are getting a little difficult to find, so if you are considering buying one of these modern classics - make sure it all works as it should - best regards - Technicsfarm

Industry standard for a reason

I got into Djing playing on a mate's 1210s, bought some cheap decks and within 2 months I had to upgrade to a pair of 1210s of my own because they're just great! For the price they sound great and have such superb torque, they really enable you to do what you want to in a way cheap ones don't. Their build quality is also top notch - they feel solid and heavy, and this is really important when you're putting your hands all over them, nudging records back and forth etc.

I would heartily recommend them to anyone wanting to start DJing. It was only when I used some that weren't as good that I could truly appreciate what awesome pieces of kit these are. If possible, try some bad ones first to see what I mean!

Rock solid, great sound

My first turntable, but having read round thought I'd take a punt on an older model than a lower-spec new one for the same price. Gamble was well worth it! Even though it's old (30+ years?), it spins like new and is nearly impervious to bumps and bouncing.

Pretty much zero noise from the unit itself and good surface noise avoidance. Easy to set up for a good sound.

Classic Turntable

Great, and in my opinion, the best DJ turntable. I learnt to mix on 1200s and still love them. I always preferred the silver 1200s to the black 1210s but that’s just my taste. Sound great, great build, reliable, hard-wearing and they look great. Great, great, great! Got it?Read full review...

Best hands down ..

Ok let's cut through the hype and the brand . I bought a pair of SL 1210 in 1990 .. they still play as good as the day I bought them. Yes there are decks with more features. More pitch More torque etc .. are they built anyway near to the standards of these decks .. ? NO. ... Nuff saidRead full review...
