A foretelling of a twisted Dystopian world

A thought provoking tale of how society was heading which has now become a reality. Considering when the book was written (1949), George Orwell comes very close to the mark. The film stays true to his book and is thought provoking and entertaining at the same time. Watch the film and then read the book if you haven’t already. I think it was a warning of how the world could end up if left to psychopathic, war mongering, power hungry leaders. And here we are, 1984 Read full review

Thought-provoking film

Very interesting with great actors. Reading the book is almost a requirement before watching the film though, because you understand much more then.

Grim, but worthwhile.

Not sure 'entertaining' is the right word for a grim picture of a possible future where the state wins by torture and brainwashing. But worth seeing - YES. Very well acted. Believable.

Fair stab at Orwells book,

Distopian love story with good cast, captures the dreary future misses the depth of the book, but a late nite horror favorite in post covid era.

Bleak but thoughtprovoking.

Not sure "entertaining" is the right word but a worthwhile film if difficult to watch. Close to the book, Strangely appropriate to these times.

Orwell classic

This is the best film of George Orwell's very best novel 1984. Sticks wonderfully well to the dystopian future of the world. A world which is not too far away l think.

John Hurt is the perfect person to portray Winston Smith, the main character in this disturbing view of a world where the past is forever being altered by the ruling party to fix the present situation. Where war is kept alive deliberately to keep the peace, the 'doublethink' philosophy that war is peace.

I know that there is at least one other film of 1984 around but this version, with John Hurt and Richard Burton, is the best!

George Orwell's 1984, is it happening?!!

1984 one of many film adaptations inspired by George Orwell's book 1984, check it out on Wiki, this film is thought to be the closest interpretation of Orwell's vision for our future, which perhaps was meant as a warning to present and furture generations, although many would now argue is already partly reality or becoming reality, Check it out!!Read full review

Classic

An all time classic. Good interpretation of the book but much briefer as book explains much background. Interesting vision of what was the future when it was written. Good quality DVD.
