20 Essential Tracks From The Boxed Set: - The Byrds

This is a great CD, but the title is not entirely accurate by indicating that these tracks are from the box set. The first track on the box set referred to has a pseudo-stereo mix of "Mr. Tambourine Man" sounding much like we have heard it for decades. Nothing earth-shaking about that. But… sometime between the release of the box set and this "essential" CD, the multi-track master tape was found for "Mr. Tambourine Man". This CD contains the first true stereo mix of that track with deep separation and a longer fade out on the ending. The sound is phenomenal to say the least, and it is not from the box set! My point being that someone having already invested in the box set (like me) will have to obtain this CD to hear this all-time classic track in stereo! The CD sound quality is excellent and if you are a casual Byrds fan, this CD affords a nice mix of their catalog and the stereo gem previously mentioned.Read full review...

Quality Digital Mastering of some Great Byrds Hits.

If you were a Byrds fan, you'll like this album. I think of the Byrds as a big, but not huge, band of the 60's & 70's. Their smooth, melodic sound was very appealing, and they had had several big hits. I never felt the need to buy their albums, but a compilation album of their hits (and some not-so-famous songs to round out the compilation) is just right for me, and the sound quality is excellent.Read full review...

Very good selection of songs on this cd, by one of America's best groups of the 60's. This is an excellent example of how powerfully diverse this group was. "Eight Miles High" is the killer tune on this cd . Incredibly innovative for that period of time. They were The Beatles' favorite American group and after listening to this cd, it's no wonder why.
After all these years, the music does not sound outdated at all. That's something you don't come accross very often.Read full review...
