Awesome Book

I think this is one of the best Jamie's cookbooks. Perfect for people that would like to have a home cooked dinner/lunch but do not care to spend too much time in the kitchen cooking or, worse, washing dishes. I review cookbooks after I try at least 10 recipes but with this one I probably made more than 20.

As the name suggests, each recipes uses 5 ingredients (expect for staples such a vinegar, oil, salt, pepper) and are very easy to make. Even though there are so few ingredients there isn't a lack in flavor. Some of the recipes use ready made pesto and other pastes but i would not bother to make them from scratch anyways. Also, the ingredients are mostly easy to find, not many strange ones, only available in specialty stores.

After being not so thrilled by 15 and 30 minutes meals (better titled 40 min and at least 1h30) this one delivers what the names suggests and more. Lovely, lovely.

Among my favorite recipes are:

Harissa Squash Salad
Crispy Smoked Mackerel
Lemony Courgette Linguini
Gnarly Peanut Chicken
Harissa Chicken Traybake
Creamy Mustard Chicken
Smoky Chorizo Salmon
Epic Rib Eye Steak
Chickpea Chard Pork

NOT MY CUP OF TEA!

I bought this book as I thought it would help me learn how to cook--I am a senior citizen in my 70s. Although the pictures are wonderful, the recipes are mostly for spicy or Asian/Chinese style foods which are not to my taste--there is very little in the way of "English" food recipes which is what I wanted. Also, the recipes assume a level of cooking experience which again I don't have--I was hoping for something more basic.
Very disappointed therefore and the book is overpriced.

5 ingredients, easy to get, delicious recipes.

Because it "does what it says on the tin".
My daughter wrote some of the recipes down. Was so impressed that I gave her my copy of the book a few months later and bought it again on ebay because I couldn't do without it!Read full review...

More than you may expect in this recipe of delights.

As everyone said, it is full of very good recipes. All of those tried had been easy and successful. I wanted it to marry up with the TV series I have on a recording device, and it has more varied content than I had expected. I think this is his best yet.Read full review...

Delicious food Easy peasy

This is an excellent book to support he TV series. I have just made my first recipe from the book (Harissa tray bake) and it was as easy as the the instructions have you believe.

Plus it was delicious

I am very happy with this book, and look forward to making many of the recipes!

Beautifully laid out with lovely pictures which show how the finished dish should look.

Beautifully laid out with lovely pictures which show how the finished dish should look. The pro's are that it introduces new ingredients and ideas to expand one's repertoire of simple, quick meals to cook mid week.

Some of the dishes, though, will need an added ingredient of, say, meat or fish to make them complete. It is also sometimes beneficial to find the relevant television programme on-line at Channel 4 food, because there are some techniques shown which aren't mentioned in the book.

Great recipe book

Typical Jamie recipes. All visually compelling and delicious.
The good thing is that these are all really quick to prepare and cooking times are generally short. The added bonus is that you generally only use one pan so washing up is minimal.

A few recipes do call for some pretty obscure ingredients which can be hard to find. I've tried around a dozen so far and all very successful.

Great for quick recipes

Even though it's five ingredients it's easy to add a few more to make the dishes your own. Having said that I made one of the dishes with 4 ingredients and it was perfect. So, a great book for quick, tasty fast delicious food.Read full review...

Thanks very much Jamie for producing this book.

As a 'non-cook' for many years, this book has been a bit of a revelation for me.
I've managed to cook about 10 meals from this book so far and they've all been enjoyed by the family. And with only 5 ingredients it means that the meals are all simple and tasty. I'm hooked. I want to do more.
Thanks very much Jamie for producing this book. After 52 years, you've got me cooking and enjoying it.
Ian.
