I've used various cold blueing products and find the Abbey Blue Gel is much easier to use and more controllable than the liquid types and gives a great finish when applied correctly. Labour of love...
Super polished barrel in my lathe, clutch/brake cleaner degreased "twice" with lint free cloth prior blueing as per instructions. Ended up repeating "three" times to get decent results before spraying with silicone oil. I would not want others to use unless they know the time it takes to get good results, as it becomes a labour of love not easy!Read full review

Small pot - big effects
I got the little 75ml pot to try out on blueing some living-history armour. I did a test plate so far but find you will need a reasonable soft brush to apply it evenly as a cloth streaks - thick and thin. If you wanted that effect fine. I'm looking to blue a breast plate so may run-out if I get even enough coats for the deep blue. One treated you need to polish/ oil as a fine rust sheen will appear after handling!
I will write anothet report when I've painted the helmet too.

I wasn't expecting much from this, as it was the cheapest out there, but happily I was proved wrong.
Easy to use and produced a rich, deep blue after 3 applications.

Simple and easy to use barrel blue, had rusty spot on my old Spanish side by side approx. 10mm round, applied 3 coats of abbey blue as instructed and job was done. Time taken approx. 10 mins.

Easy & Effective
I have tried this on patches of an old air rifle and after minimal preperation, found it is difficult to see the re-blueing over the original. I used an extremely cheap small brush to apply so I think it will go a long, long way. It seems to be a very easy way to re-blue any steel.Read full review

Value for money a little goes a long way ,
This Gel is a real dream to use goes on well I picked this up for about 9 Sterling as a gel it goes further
than the Birchwood Casey which is probably 5 sterling more but has less content and is more messy to
use ,
Don't get me wrong is it the best bluing fluid I've ever used no but value for money it does what it say's on
the tin and the finish is superb ,(if your parts are prepped properly ,)
