Good show, very enjoyable rarity from the early 70s

I had heard good reviews about this show on various forums and love UK kids TV from this era in general. Plus it's unlikely to be shown on TV and is a rarity, and it relatively cheap.

Anyway it arrived quite promptly. The only drawback that it's Region 2 and wouldn't play on my main DVD player, but it did play on my spare DVD player. My bad, should have checked that first.

Just loved the storylines, not to mention the 70s imagery and fashions. Also enjoyed the comentary from Michael McKenzie and Petra Markham and the director (whose name escapes me)on 'Sisters Deadly'.

Really hoping they find the first two series of this show one day, just as much as I'd like to see the missing Dr Who stories.

Absorbing, unique and of it's time... Brilliant!

Took me back to special time in my childhood and reminded me of other entertaining, adventurous and sci-fi drama's.

Re-live the 1970s - Pure nostalgia with an excellent bonus documentary.

If you saw Ace of Wands when it was originally broadcast the music and opening title sequence will instantly transport you back to the early 1970s. Yes, the first episodes have been lost, the special effects are basic, and the acting is a little one dimensional. However despite all its short comings it oozes 70's style and it’s great to relive the days before mobile phones, laptops and social networking. An enjoyable piece of pure nostalgia, with the bonus of an excellent documentary about the making of the series.Read full review...

Ace of Wands

Excellent period piece - forget about Life on Mars - if you want to see what fashion / haircuts and 'cool people' were really like in the 70's, this is the one to watch!!
Obviously this was childrens TV and both the subject matter and special FX were in early days. Very strange to have no incidental music and some of the acting appears to have come straight from stage school, but lovely to see something that was so leading edge in its day again.Read full review...

Tarot cards, Tarot bananaman? Surely not?

Actually, the words go Tarot Guards, Tarot the diamond man but it does sound like Tarot cards, Tarot bananaman.

This is an excellent early seventies series. Sadly the early episodes don't exist but check out the three P.J. Hammonmd written stories on these discs as you can see the origins of his Sapphire And Steel style. This is far superior to the patchy Tomorrow People series that replaced it. Watching it as an adult it never talks down to it's audience but does require compassion for it's budgetary failings.

Great documentary and booklet but then they always are from Network.

So sit down, put the disc in and wait for the lovely Thames banner followed by the beautiful theme and titles before you're whisked away to an Avengers style world of strange happenings.

ace of wands

this is a really good series, only dissapointment was it was listed as complete series.i thought it was for all 3 series but they only made series three as one and two do not exist, they were wiped after they were filmed in early 70s.this in mind i would not have bought it if i can only watch the final series.Read full review...

Ace Of Wands (DVD)

Really enjoyed this as a child along with children of the stones and now I remember why. The whole scene of the innocent seventies was excellent to see again. When goodies were good and baddies were nasty evil, but in your mind not by splattering blood across the screen. Real Magic...Read full review...
