A great game-- but a concern!

You will not be able to run this game on Windows 10 without a no-cd crack. It's simply necessary due to the old copyright protections that the game is rooted in no longer being compatible with the OS, ironically due to safety concerns. This means you'll have to do some work to get the game to function (try the AoM sub-reddit for more information), but once you do, everything is worth it. The voice acting is just as mid 2000s as you remember, the story just as strange and wonderful and campy, and the expansion pack offers an intriguing new way to play the game, with a campaign to match. A multiplayer community also still exists for this title via certain programs that can be downloaded and used to interact with and play against people across the globe, just as in the good old days-- but this is all dependent upon whether or not you can get the crack to work. Great game, but won't work on current platforms

It doesn't work. Won't load and/or start. I loved playing this game "back in the day", but it no longer works in Windows 10/11. Multiple other organizations are asking for monthly fees to make it work with no guarantees that the issue will be solved.Read full review...

Conquer the realms of history and mythology

I gave this game a good, but it borders on excellent. Age of Mythology (Gold Edition) is an excellent strategy-based game. You build the society, you create the armies and you choose the gods to be worshiped in this detailed game. The graphics are outstanding and watching the battle scenes unfold are captivating.

If I have a grip its that early on, you can get beat very badly and it can be a little discouraging. But start with the Greeks, worship Zeus and get your feet wet there. Each culture has their own little nuances, tricks and tactics, but you can pick those up as you go along.

One big added benefit of this game is that my 10-year-old son is already picking up on how these various cultures operate. The asked a question about the Egyptians in his school last spring (2007) and he whipped off the answer in nothing flat. When the teacher asked him how he knew that, he said that his dad had taken him to the King Tut Exhibit a year earlier and that he had this cool new game. For that reason alone I'm very enthusiastic about this game.

Outstanding game replay value

You can switch and use any God's you wish the game play never gets boring the game has a difficult learning curve but once you learn it you will be glad because of what I have told you so far the god powers are amazing you can be losing the battle and the god powers can sway the battle in your favor unbelievable graphics well worth the money I don't usually gush Praise on games but this is one time I will make an exception like campaigns on this game are not to be ignored as they will teach you methods strategies how to use the game properly that you need to know if you ignore the campaign's then you were probably not like this game but with that said I highly recommend this game

Descent graphics but a little corny

The graphics are a lot better than the older AOE's, but the story line the characters are centered around are a little corny. I didn't like the units that much. Since you are stuck in the ancient time era, you can't really upgrade to something very different and powerful, like AOE3, where you can upgrade to a lot of gunpowder units.

There is some good history about it. It shows the different units and strategies that were used during that time. It is a cool game if you are into greek, roman, egyptian, etc. mythology, but it wasn't for me. I never got into mythology that much,so I don't play it. If you really want to get a great RTS game, go the extra step further and buy Age of Empires III, which has more detailed graphics and better gameplay.

There is however, something really cool about AOM gameplay. Each civilization has different main gods you can choose from which change gameplay. Each of those gods has different lesser gods. A choice must be made when advancing throughout the ages as to which lesser god you want to worship. Each god offers different abilities, which brings more diversity, even between people playing the same civilization. I bought AOM because I thought it looked pretty cool, but when I did play it, it just didn't catch my eye.

Age of Mythology Gold Edition (PC Games)

From Ensemble Studios™, the creators of Age of Empires and Age of Kings, comes Age Of Mythology. It is a game that transports players to a time when heroes did battle with monsters of legend and the Gods intervened in the affairs of mortal men.

Taking on the role of one of nine ancient civilizations, players guide their people to greatness by commanding all aspects of their empire : gathering resources, raising massive armies, waging war against enemies, establishing profitable trade routes, building new settlements, enhancing production or military might with improvements, exploring new frontiers, and advancing through four distinct ages.

Age Of Mythology : The Titans adds the Atlanteans to the existing Greek, Egyptian, and Norse mythologies that are present in Age of Mythology. A new single-player campaign will add yet another chapter to the expansive panoply of ancient folklore along with the addition of new scenarios. Atlantean players will be able to call upon the might of the Titan Gods (such as Atlas and Cronus) multiple times throughout the game. They may also upgrade human units to heroes. The expansion pack will introduce new items to the game : 12 God powers, 15 human units, and 12 formidable myth units.

The above-written portion is from a previously done review. To date, I still endorse the playing of this game. It's challenging, interesting, and rendered very well.

I love this game. Initially, I began playing the demo when it was first made available to the public. Then, I purchased the full-version. Several years later, I'm still playing Age Of Mythology (plus Titans).

This purchase was a replacement disc-set. I'd played the old set literally to death.

If you like warfare-type games along with mythology and the creatures that are related to the various ancient cultures, you will like this game.

I must admit a couple of things, though.

(These items apply to the player-made games only.)

The mapmaker potion is a bit challenging because several of the AIs do not like to function properly and give out fault dialogue boxes at the start of a player-made game. Yet, the end result of a properly-functioning AI is great.

The triggers are also an obstacle at times. If you don't supply the correct ones, your game will not end as it's supposed to. This results in your being forced to either go into shutdown status or forfeit which is a loss both ways.

Regardless, the game is well worth it.

Any other issues can be addressed to the Microsoft Corporation. A patch is usually made available for remedying glitches such as game hang or their technicians will assist you by providing a solution.

This product works well with Windows Vista even though there is no listing (yet) for this platform on the packaging. The Compatibility Wizard cures that problem at installation time.

It's a very fast installation for a 2-disc game. Rapid loading on startup. Easy gameplay.

Buy this game. You'll love it.

a most excellent rts

Ok so its an older game so lower graphics are a given, but once your past that the 3d map rotation is definately a plus, combine that with 4 very unique races and 4 very different ways to play the game and add in the sub gods for each race creates a very broad range of playtypes. As far as the feel of the game, the mytholigy setting is really a different feel from most rts games and that in itself makes this game worth playing, so I guess if your a fan of real time stratagy games this is definately worth the play.Read full review...

Great product and worth everything.

This game is old but I have so many memories of it. I bought just because I couldn't find my original one and I wanted to play it. Worth every buck and it came with an expansion that I never had.

Age of Mythology Gold Edition

Age of Mythology is a war-strategy game with a Sim-City flavor. It grabs your addictive gland like watching the flames of a fire will - as any worthy video game should. When you first see the game being played you'll find your head involved in the multi-layered levels of action even before you know it. Your forces REQUIRE your attention as their very survival depends on it! You'll rapidly gain deep knowledge of the game which is good because this is a deep game. Every campaign is so infinitely variable that individual style, decisions, technique make for a game that it can't be played the same way twice. And damn if the next time you play it won't be better with the new knowledge gained from this playing!
The only thing that bothered me at first was that there was a limit to how far out you can zoom while playing; but then maybe that is how it should be - even if you are playing a God.
Good graphics. Many different types of characters, soldiers, and mythological beasts. Many different mythologies and God powers.
Go! Fight! WIN! (Or, die.)

Great old game!

I bought this game because I owned it when it first came out, and I wanted to start playing it again. It used to be one of my favorite games, and it still is. If you like this style of game, you will love this game. It's very cheap, and one of my favorite games I've ever played. The only bad thing about this game is eventually you will run out of different ways to play it, and you will probably get bored unless you come up with new creative ways to play it. Plus this is the gold edition which adds 3 new usable primary gods and a whole new race you can use. Plus it adds another campaign which extends your playing time. Anyways, overall it's an amazing game, and its worth the price of you enjoy this style of strategy game.Read full review...
