A slow moving film conveying the repression of the time.

It follows the book very closely, apart from a few changes. I thought it was too slow moving, but it did convey the terror of living under the regime of Nazi Germany if you weren't a party member. There must have been a large minority of people who were opposed to the politics of the time, and this film conveys their powerlessness to kick against the constraints imposed. I would recommend this film to anyone seeking a greater knowledge of the atmosphere created by the Third Reich during those years.Read full review

Seems slow to start but very subtle and shows exactly what happens with no honest freedom of speech and particularly Free press.
Also shows how easy it is to fail to protect democracy, inch by inch - do not resist this - don't look at that - too busy to stop and scrutinise the bigger picture.
