Amscope 10x 20x! Great value!

I got a very reasonable deal on a gently used Amscope 10x-20x stereo microscope. I was initially concerned about the quality of the scope and if it would provide enough magnification to rework small components on circuit boards. Those concerns went away when I received the scope. Even the price for a new scope is a great value for the quality and clarity. Even at 10x it is more than enough to work on the smallest components. The LED light is more than adequate doesn’t interfere with the view. The adjustments work well and the scope is easy to use. The construction is solid and perfect for home repairs. I’m not sure if this scope is robust enough for an industrial environment, but who knows? If used with care it may hold up anywhere. In the next few years I will probably want to upgrade to a higher end model zoom microscope. When I do It will very likely be another Amscope.Read full review...

Good buy for the money, a few minor issues

Sorry, my review won't be quite as glowing as the others.

I'll start with the good:
Excellent value for the money
Good depth of field
Really great for dealing with tiny surface-mount circuitry
Heavy, stable base
Easy, convenient adjustments
Gooseneck illuminator is easily positioned and plenty bright

The minor bad:
Missing the small tool you can see in the pictures, but you really don't need it
Missing the instruction manual, but again you don't really need it
Oculars had a lot of dirt, hairs, etc in them, needed cleaning
One objective lens assembly was totally loose in its mounting, had to adjust and actually tighten the setscrews
The main supporting post was loose, had to open the base and tighten it, which was a pain

But, none of the bad was actually bad enough to make me regret getting it, pretty much par for the course when you get inexpensive Chinese equipment.

All in all, completely worth the cost if you need a binocular microscope for occasional close-up work.

Awesome

There is really no substitute for an old school stereo mic. The photo was shot on pixel 2 through a diopter. What the photo is not communicating is depth perception, how comfortable it is and how easy it is to manipulate your work piece.
