Does just what I wanted.

Bought a very cheap second hand kindle at the time of the first lockdown, when I could no longer get to the library or charity shops. I read a lot and this was a useful addition to buying physical books online. I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy it, so didn't want to spend a lot.
In fact, this version does everything I want it to- can access the internet and listen/watch YouTube as well as reading books. Very easy to use and useful to be able to change font size, background brightness etc.
Because it's an old version it no longer allows you to download audio books and there are a few other limitations- what games you can download, for instance- which don't bother me.
It's an old machine so its battery life is only average- I have listened to YouTube for up to 4.5 hours before needing to recharge, and have been able to read for much longer.
All in all a good buy at the price.

Lightweight compact, easy to use, Excellent value for money

Although this an an early 2nd generation Kindle I think it still has some useful advantages over some of the later models for instance this 2nd gen kindle HD has a mini-HDMI socket so you can watch your movies and pictures on a PC monitor or your TV.

It doesn't have memory expansion but I was lucky enough to get a Kindle with 32Gb built in and frankly I cannot see myself running out of memory any time soon. Now where did I put my glasses ?....

The Kindle is quite quick when surfing and streams video perfectly from youtube etc. I have attached the kindle to my PC and downloaded some youtube videos ,movies and MP3s which I can watch on the move or in bed. I also use it to catch up on the latest news

Having a HDMI socket means I can stream catchup TV to my Kindle and watch it on my TV when there is nothing on ...(ie most evenings),

Lightweight compact and easy to hold it ticks all my boxes and it only cost £20 incl a case Excellent value for money

Amazing technology and multi use tablet at an attractive price

This was for a Christmas present primarily for book reading but bought the HD Fire as the latest model to remain up to date for some years with WiFi web access etc. Has some great features but as mid aged people we are a bit slow to learn some! For Web work it is best to obtain a 'screen pen' which has a finer tip than a finger! The only annoying thing we have found so far is the tiny (and well camouflaged!) on/off switch.Read full review...

Small screen but good value

There is a reason Kindle issues the larger size screen but for my own purposes 7" is ok, especially at the modest price I paid including the leather case.

The case seems slightly bulky but this is because it also serves as a fully rotatable stand so will work for portrait or landscape and even left-hand or right hand use.

Access to the internet is particularly useful and I suspect the rather slow speed is down to my broadband connection as much as to the machine.

Fast, Efficient, Easy!

I think the Kindle Fire HD is an excellent product with a reasonable price. I originally purchased the Kindle Fire HD after doing a great deal of research on the model, I also considered purchasing the Kindle Fire, but settled on the HD as it had more storage. My intent was to mainly read books as I do read a lot of them.
I like most of the features about the Kindle Fire, the battery life is reasonably long and it does warn you when it's running down. What I don't like about the battery is the charger is very slow (it can literally take 12 hours), and that you can't close the cover during charging due to the location of the charger plug. As a result, the screen does constantly light up during charging.
Overall, the model is lightweight enough to easily hold, large enough to play games, and offers a wide range of apps for anyone who wants to use them. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, and have in fact recently purchased two more as gifts for my family. Great product!

Small light and reliable

Easy to use, reliable, keeps up to speed .I have not ever needed to update .or run boring cleaning systems with it yet in 2years. No more backaches and screen strain being in in front of an accensoir for hours. It does everything I need and is secure .thanksRead full review...

Very good

Very good for an old tablet!
The Amazon OS is very nice to use, all of the apps you need are there.
I have tried other android OS on the Kindle Fire 7 BUT the one that works the best is android 4.4.2 Omni ROM (KitKat).
The screen is very nice and sharp to and the battery is very good about 6 hours with WiFi on and watching Netflix/amazon prime.

Versatile, easy to use and a fantastic product.

I am not a techno whizz by any stretch, and yet the more I use this fantastic piece of kit, the more I love it and it is just so easy. The screen and picture quality and excellent and I can watch TV, I find it very easy to read for books and it is great to take travelling as you can play games, read or catch up with programmes or films, so keeps everyone entertained. I am so pleased with it and would certainly recommend it and if fits in my handbag so it goes everywhere with me.Read full review...

Great Fire Tablet/Ebook Reader

For the money, this is an excellent 7” tablet. It is robust and of high quality. It’s certainly superior in my opinion to the newer models, which seem more fragile and cheaply made. The only downside, it does not have an SD card slot to expand the memory. But for me, this was a minor consideration as you can easily transfer books and films from a PC, or directly from Amazon.Read full review...
