Best for reading

The Amazon Paperwhite is not a tablet with a bunch of flashy features, but if you just want to read books or documents, it is perfect.
I actually don't use it much for Kindle books, but to read PDFs and other documents. Using the program Calibre I can convert any text file into a kindle file and read it at my convenience.
The best part is that the screen doesn't irritate my eyes like an LCD screen (which I already spend way to much time staring at). Also, with the Paperwhite you can read it in any kind of lighting - I was walking along and reading and passed through bright light, shade, and darkness and could read the whole time without problem.
Also, it is very lightweight and so I can hold it and turn pages with just one hand.
The only thing I don't like is that with the newer Paperwhite I cannot add fonts to be able to read in other languages or more attractive fonts.
Battery life is awesome - I've never got it down below half charged, even when I went over a week without charging it.

I prefer the Kindle Paperwhite.

Great space-saver for readers, but I have been spoiled by having a Kindle Paperwhite for some time. I mistakenly ordered this one when I had intended to get another Paperwhite which doesn't require decent light to read. In fact, it doesn't need ANY light other than what it has internally. Reading in a car at night while waiting for another person is easy and pleasant.
That is my only complaint. This is easy to read with good light, has storage space for thousands of books which are easy to get and either free or not-too-expensive to get from Amazon.
E-readers don't last forever. When this one quits working, I'll get another Paperwhite. Maybe before then and keep this one as a backup.

Better than Expected from a Novice

As a new user of kindle, it took me a while to understand how to locate and re-locate text of the book I was reading; and to be aware of changing WI-Fi sources in the middle of a read. Overall, it functions amazingly well without light and the screen is exceptionally clear and crisp. It is superior to handling a book in almost every way, although I do sometimes wish I could highlight and make notes in more technical data, and have an instant record of them. Read full review...

Good Buy

My first e-reader. The screen is very good, as is the battery. From day to day it uses only about 8% of its charge. You can sideload pdf files but it's tricky to scroll the pages. Better to convert them to mobi format first. Surprisingly the Kindle doesn't read epub files. They too have to be converted to mobi. I've loaded 2.8G of files without any issues. I like this device because it is dedicated to reading and doesn't distract me with access to the internet. This is a refurbished, older model of Kindle but works well. No problems.Read full review...

The bes kindle book reader

For reading books, and carrying a whole lot of them with you, this is the best Kindle. It's backlighting means you can read it with the lights out. It's clear and doesn't tire the eyes. Good page size. Good variety of fonts and font sizes. Makes reading easy.Read full review...

Quality product at a reasonable price

The screen is easy on the eyes due to the fine resolution and the backlight. The kindle isnt heavy and easy to hold but not light enough and not tactile enough to hold for long. The surface is quality but easy to get scratched. It will develop scratches by the time your case gets delivered. The user interface is somewhat dated given the touch interface. I actually preferred clicking a physical button to turn pages. Touching screen to turn pages is annoying and slow. Perhaps they should make it more responsive as on ipad. Battery life is somewhat reduced on backlight and wifi but is pretty good. Overall very satisfied.Read full review...

Kindle Paperwhite is a Great E-Reader

This is my second Paperwhite. (I lost the first one after several years enjoying it.) It's the best way to read books that don't have illustrations. The battery lasts forever, it's easy on the eyes no matter where you are, and you can carry a library in a large pocket. It's also great for reading in bed without disturbing your partner. Highly recommended.Read full review...

Great kindle, slightly damaged screen

This is a great kindle, works perfectly. There’s a small blemish on the screen but other than that, like new! Kind of surprising what a big deal and how expensive they are new- they’re like my readers from 10 years ago! But no apps or distractions.Read full review...

Light

The Paperwhite is very thin and light so I can carry it in my small purse.
Excellent to read in sunlight and very easy to scroll through its features.
I was very satisfied with the price.
