Fix it yourself

EvThis is a top quality toilet flapper that is so easy to install that this inexperienced 71 y.o. grandma was able to do it. Immediately stopped the running toilet that had caused me to have to use the shut off valve to stop the leaking. I couldn’t hire a plumber because of the cost. Read some reviews and instructions and decided to do it myself. Piece of cake. Had it installed within 10 minutes. Hardest part was getting the clip out for the new one.Read full review

leaky toilet

This flapper is the one called for in the toilet instructions attached to the underneath of the
tank lid. Installed it and the leak has stopped. It is of much better quality that the red rubber
type available. Ordering here on ebay was faster and more convenient that searching
the big box stores.

Easier Than Replacing Seal or Whole Flush Valve Assembly

The seems to be a design defect in the seal on the bottom of the flapper. The seal seems to wear out in roughly three years of use and starts to leak.
The seal is inexpensive but hard to install on the flapper. It is worth the extra cost to replace the whole flapper. Just be very careful, it is a tight fit to pop off the old flapper. You can replace the entire flush valve assembly, but it costs more to buy and also takes more time because you have to remove the tank for that replacement.
This Flapper Assembly is the easiest way to replace the leaky seal.

Very Good Quality

This review is limited because I couldn't use it and it wasn't cost effective to pay to have it returned. The reason is because the flushing mechanism inside my American Standard toilet was not of original American Standard OEM parts. Therefore, this part was too large and would not fit my toilet by itself. The hooks that attach it to the vertical fill tube were too wide to be used on the existing assembly.
Having said all of that, this American Standard flapper assembly is made of very high quality materials and I'm sure it would have performed very well and for the longevity. Too bad it wouldn't fit my toilet's existing internal flushing assembly. I consider this oversight my fault because I did not inspect my toilet's existing assembly close enough before ordering to recognize the size disparity from the pictures.

excellent replacement flapper

one note of caution when replacing a worn out original flapper -- some toilet manufacturers use a very stiff and sticky rubber flapper that completely covers and firmly grips the hinge post; that is, the flapper does not easily snap on and off. one could suspect this is intentional to cause harm to a perfectly good toilet when the flapper wears out. my old flapper was on there like one of those rubber exhaust hangers, practically had to use a crow bar to unhinge it. as a result, i broke off one hinge post in the process. so be very careful. now i have one heck of an excellent flapper on a fully manual toilet that i have to reach in and close after every flush. working on a fix for that. still, this replacement flapper is a gem. it uses a separate rubber washer under the top, just visible in the picture, that could possibly be replaceable itself if sold somewhere, greatly reducing the maintenance cost of this flapper over the coming years.Read full review

Perfect replacement

Perfect replacement.
Tried a universal flap first but it leaked a bit.
Ordered the original equipment and no more 'phantom flushes'.

Go With The Real Thing

Bought an after market stopper from one of the home improvement stores. It didn't work well and leaked a bit. Bought one of these on line...and my problem went away. Always a lesson...buy the real thing to begin with.Read full review

Great American Standard 3" flapper replacement

This worked fine. It replaced an old, worn flapper that was not sealing properly. The new one was easy to fit and functioned perfectly.

Doesn’t fit the American Standard toilet with cadet 3 flush.

I bought this because my toilet calls for a cadet 3 flush system. The ears on the flush valve are to wide to fit the snaps. I had to grind some of the ears off and put a little heat on the ears to bend them in about 3/16 the of an inch on both ears. This allows it to fit the flush system. Read full review
