A good starter ice cream maker

I had done some research before I bought this so had a good idea what I was buying.
It is one of the more reasonably priced machines.
The removable bowl is useful as it takes up less space in the freezer than some other models where you have to put the whole unit in. Also it only takes eight hours in the freezer to be ready to use rather than some which take 12.
It is easy to operate (just an on and off switch). It is compact so doesn't take up too much space on my worktop.
I have made two batches of ice cream so far and they have both been successful. The mix comes out like 'soft scoop' but firms up if you put it into the freezer for a while afterwards.
The only criticism I would make is that if you are adding chocolate chips or suchlike, I had to remove the lid and paddle to add the chocolate chips as the first time I did it I added them while the paddle was still in the machine and it jammed. Also the instruction and recipe book that comes with it is more like a flimsy pamphlet with only basic instructions and very few recipes in it. However there are plenty of recipes to be found online. I also found it very useful to view various you tube videos that show the process step by step to demonstrate such things as tempering the eggs etc (if you add the hot milk all at once into the eggs mix it will 'scramble the eggs so it has to be added a little at a time which is called tempering).
In all I have been very pleased with my Andrew James Ice Cream Maker and would recommend it.

Poor Product

Do not bother getting this machine as it's a bad-made product. It arrived completely damaged and I could not use it at all. The problem is the packaging. They packed the whole thing in a black plastic bin bag and did not use any outer carton to protect the ice cream maker. The ice cream maker has its carton but it's a very poor packaging, made with thin cardboard. The base of the ice cream maker seems to be okay in its solid form, however, the plastic lib is a big problem as one can see that the manufacturer used a very cheap and thin material and therefore, it breaks very easily, especially when the supplier did not carefully wrap it with bubbles or solid carton to protect them.
Anyway, to return it to the supplier for a refund is also annoying as we have to take it to the post office to send it back. The whole thing is pretty heavy. For a woman like me, 70 years old, to carry such heavy stuff to the office is pretty tough. Very annoying!

Good value

...but paddle seemed a bit wobbly!? Worked fine.

Bowl is a good nice, not too massive for freezer and froze well overnight.

Made 2 different - one ice cream, one sorbet - both good.

Would recommend.

One bugbear: slot to pour mix through is a bit small.

Great value.

This is a great little piece of kit at a great price. Comes apart , so easy to clean. Works really well with the commercial brand of ice cream mix I use. Don't know how long it will last but only time will tell. Word of warning, don't forget to pour the ice cream mixture into the machine after it has started rotating. I foolishly added the liquid to the bowl first and by the time I flicked the "on" switch, the mixture had already frozen solid to the inside of the bowl and the paddle couldn't rotate. Quite a clean up operation. 😅Really pleased with this machine. Read full review...

Good little machine

Haven't had proper ice cream for 6 years due to lactose intolerance but after getting some money for my birthday decided to get an ice cream maker.... but which one?...always leaned towards magi mix products but after reading several reviews noticed the Andrew James lce cream maker was getting excellent feedback and the capacity (1.5 ltr) was the same, so took a chance and I'm very pleased I did, very easy to use and the results are always "excellent" as is the after sales service too! Thank you Andrew James. Read full review...

Great product!

Ice cream came out just great and it took only 30 minutes! Besides, it comes with basic recipes for different flavours of this treat. Another wonderful feature that it's extremely easy to opearte- all it takes is to switch on one button.Read full review...

Good feedback

The product is easy to use and as described. Good quality and fast shipment, my only critisize is that it doesn't freeze the ice cream quite cold enough as it starts to melts fast straight away once the ice cream is made so it must be placed in freezer to chill a little further.Read full review...

Bad design for cleaning electric lid if you don't want Bacteria growing.

I used a damp cloth as per the instructions on the electric lid because there was raw egg on it. However, a tiny bit of water still went into the clear lid where the electrics are. Called up Andrew James but they wouldn't replace the lid. If it doesn't dry somehow (doubtful), I will either try it and electrocute myself or lose £25. Shame as otherwise a good product. Same thing happened with the slicer I bought from them, where there are grooves you can't clean meat off very easily. Good products as I say but not designed for hygienic cleaning and risk of bacteria. Read full review...

Disappointing

Worked fine the first time i used it although i found it very messy. When pouring the mixture into the maker a lot of it leaked out onto the side. The instructions tell you NOT to wash any parts in the dishwasher or "immerse" the inner bowl, which all makes it a pain to clean (there is one spot on the inside of the lid that is almost impossible to get to).
The second time i used it after having put the inner bowl in the freezer for around 12 hours after an hour of running the motor cut out and i had basically a cold drink with a couple of patches of slush.
Third time put bowl in freezer for 16 hours and didnt get any slush at all just a cold drink!!!

Makes amazing ice cream

I have bought a second one, the first one having broken down. The motor suddenly made a terrible grateing noise and stopped. However I liked the machine so much that I have bought exactly the same. Makes beautiful soft ice cream just ready to eat and is really simple to use.Read full review...
