Animal Crossing - City Folk 2008 Review

Yes, this is an old game, but we had a copy and played it for many hours on our Wii. We recently bought a refurb Wii because we have so many Wii games and they are not backward compatible on the Wii U, so it was this or buy a Wii U, an gameverse we are not ready to put that much money into.

The game works basically the same as the original Game Cube Animal Crossing except it has a city you can take the train too. You can buy stuff in the city but not a lot there moves your game forward if you are just trying to pay off the renovations on your house.Read full review...

Deja Vu

Although the Animal Crossing as a series is well-made and interesting, the fact that this game is exactly like it's predecessor makes the old players (the one who've played the DS and gamecube one) a bit discouraged in sending more time doing the same thing. Yes, there are new things such as the city and some new bugs and fishes to catch, but essentially, it's the same thing... Don't get me wrong, I love the Animal Crossing series, but in this installment, it seems that Nintendo only wants to make a quick buck from new player or player who are stupid enough to buy the same game twice (Which includes myself, so that wasn't meant to be an insult)...

All in all, for a new player to the series, great, you've got yourself a game which you can play for, essentially, ever, or at least until you got bored of it (Which can be anything between a week or years), for the old player, yay... You get to play the same again, with minor differences. KK is always awesome though, as per usual, although I'm not sure whether he has old or new songs.Read full review...

Animal Crossing is back for Wii

I am enjoying this game with my by 4 brothers in our town called Pluto. I just started my file, and Animal Crossing for Wii is just as fun and the online interactivty will be nice. There is plenty of things yet to be explored, Animal Crossing for the Wii isn't great, but you should it try if you were fan of Animal Crossing series.

Like I said Online, will be a cool feature. Although in my opinion Nintendo could do so much more with there Online and Wi needs a hardrive, like just a 20 gig add on. Why encourage downloading from wii channel or anything else w/o enough space?? sd cards don't hold space for jack.

Sorry to get off topic there, Animal Crossing it should be very fun to share your designs and get to see the other towns all over the animal crossing universe. Animal Crossing is a good sequel for the Wii, I would say you should buy it.Read full review...

Animal Crossing

Loved this game as a kid. Excited to pick it back up while practicing social distancing. It’s a very relaxed game and is family friendly. You can have multiple people in the same town, but you have to play at separate times. My siblings, parents and I used to compete to make the town better, make the most money and upgrade our houses. My mom had to set a timer for each of us to take turns playing because we all got so into it(including the adults). I would highly recommend this game!Read full review...

Great!! New experience for me but confusing

I bought this product because I like virtual world games.

I like the Animal Crossing Series. I have Wild World, New leaf, and City Folk. However I do find that city folk's controls are a little confusing. And the world's a little too big for me. It takes me 4 minutes to get to my house (which is located right under the Town Hall) And I always visit the Town gate which is 2 minuets away from my Town Hall.
Also speed when I run is slow. I wish it was more interactive with the other villager than Tom Nook like Wild World. The graphics are good.

To tell the truth I like New Leaf better than city folk but I can't say I wasted $20.00. It was a new experience for me since that was the first animal crossing game on Wii. IRead full review...

Another huge franchise in the making

Animal Crossing follows up from its Game Cube and Nintendo DS installments with its best version to date, at the time of its release. It has since been surpassed New Leaf, but it still offers year long playback.
One unique aspects of this franchise is that a day in real life is a day in game. With different seasons, weather events, festivals, tournaments, and holidays, there is a reason to log in every day. Upkeep of your town is a daily exercise, as well. Between fishing, digging for fossils, bug collecting, fishing, paying off your house a few times, tree farming, fishing, flower farming, star gazing, relationship building, and fishing, there's plenty to do in your town, and things change monthly. The game is appropriate for all ages, but adventure gamers may not be interested in its slow pace. There's much more to it than I mentioned here. Animal Crossing City Folk

I'm 23 and I've been a fan of the Animal Crossing series for years. I bought a Wii just for this game and it didn't disappoint. The gameplay on the Wii is, needless to say, very different from the GC and DS versions. It allows you to be a little more interactive with the game (Wiimote motions) which I really like. I feel like I'm doing a bit more than just staring at a screen and toggling joysticks. The downside to the Wii version is you have to point/aim and select items in your inventory with the Wiimote. There's no scrolling through and selecting with the D-pad. You can play this game with or without a nunchuck, but the nunchuck makes it so much easier. The only thing I've grown to dislike about Animal Crossing (as an adult with responsibilities) is that it is a real-time game. I don't always have the time to keep up with it.Read full review...

New game but difficult to see any real changes

It is good that Animal Crossing had made its way into the Wii, but it seems that even though it is a "new" game the contents are pretty much the same. It seems like the graphics are not that much better either. I think Nintendo can at least put a little more 3D graphics into the game or make the graphics a bit clearer. The Wii is surely capable of handling more graphics than the game cube. I do like the game though( I like the concept of being able to go to the city), don't take me wrong, it is just a bit disappointing when I had expected more. Good game to buy though, if you had enjoyed the previous versions of Animal Crossing. Overall I give it 7.5 out of 10.

Pros: good old Animal Crossing game play, being able to go to the city, a bit more contents than DS, being able to design your shirts (fully) front and back and even the sleeves, awesome Mii head customizations

Animal Crossing Is Better Than Ever

I will go through everything there is to this game, including the new City, as said in the title.

Story: 10/10

Well, basically there is no "Story" to Animal Crossing games, it's basically a do-whatever-you-want sort of game. However, with all the new features - new and old - you are surely not going to put this game down for a while. You still work for Nook, the same shops are still around (with new ones too!) and of course, the Museum is also around. However, the new City (which has more than 5 new shops, I will get into it later) brings a lot of new material to Animal Crossing!

Gameplay/Controls: 9/10

Of course the Wii was going to bring new controls to this game, and it was successful! To fish, you can now swing the Wii Remote to cast and reel in. The same goes for Bug Catching, you can now swing the Wii Remote to catch bugs. When you point the Wii Remote at your screen, your Menu shows up. From there you choose what you would like to view. You can click where you want to go with the Wii Remote, or use the Nunchuk for a more comfortable moving style. The controls are very flexible so that you can get used to a way that you like, making it easier for you.

Graphics: 10/10

Animal Crossing games have always had cartoon-like Graphics. This game, however, has some of the best cartoon Graphics I myself have ever seen. You can barely notice pixels showing, and/or wrong-looking shapes. That's all I have to say about the Graphics, they are simply amazing.

Music/Sound: 10/10

All your favourite tunes from Wild World are back, with new rhythm's added and new instruments, but still the same old music you remember! K.K Slider is - of course - back as well. I have found myself for no reason at all humming tunes from Animal Crossing: City Folk, because they are easy to remember and enjoyable to listen to. There is a wide variety of songs that K.K will play for you once a week on Saturday night, and when he is finished playing he will give you the CD for it. You can play this song in your house in the game.

The City: 10/10

Remember back in Wild World when you would have to wait for days and daayyss for a visitor to come to your town that you actually needed? Well, in this game, more than half of them reside in the City! Crazy Redd runs his usual shop, Dr. Shrunk has his own theatre where you can get Emotions, Lyle runs the HRA. Gracie runs her new fashion - but EXPENSIVE - shop where you can get new good-looking furniture. A Gyroid runs an Auction House where you can place items up for bidding and auction them over Nintendo WiFi Connection. Harriet runs Shampoodle, and Katrina has her Fortune-Telling shop also! On occasion you might run into new stands set up around the City, also. All in all, the City is a great new feature in Animal Crossing.

Online Play: 10/10

Probably the best part of Animal Crossing, the Online Play! This game is just like Wild World, exchange your Friend Codes and visit each others Town. However this has not changed much, there is a new object you can buy with City Folk, called WiiSpeak. This WiiSpeak lets you talk with your voice to your friends over WiFi! It is much easier talking this way than typing. In each others town, you can talk, trade, play games (bug/fishing tournament) visit shops, and many more. Get a bunch of friends and even have a party in your town. I assure you that if you have WiFi Connection, this game will be so much more enjoyable for you.Read full review...

Theres always something to do in Animal Crossing Wii

Great game. It is in a way a younger person friendly Sims game, but instead of playing God and making the characters them do things, its more hands on like an RPG (Role playing game). You live life in the game as you would in the real world.

Seasons come and go and thats what makes this game exciting. 4 seasons, real time function (time travel if you want), and the town is always changing (and the sky is too...). Even holidays are included. You can do so much in this game, Go fishing, catch bugs, dig for fossils, even stop by the museum for some good music on Saturday nights. If that wasn't enough for you. You can even go to the city to have some fun as well. Customize your home or even decorate your town to your liking. But let me not spill everything. If you can do it in the real world, you most likely can do it in animal crossing. If you get bored and lonely then have a friend over through wifi.

The multiplayer is incredibly fun and the Wii Speak addition makes communicating with your visitors easier. But if you do not wish to talk to them, you can also type out what you would like to say using the Wii remote or a keyboard.

All in all i give this game a 10/10. There are some things that they could have added to make the game even better, but right now the game is great as well. I've been playing it for 2 years and still don't get bored. This is more upgraded then its first Animal Crossing (Gamecube) and Animal Crossing Wild World (DS) combined. I hope they make another Animal Crossing with even more things to do.
