Great books, great price, great condition

When I tell people I'm reading this series for the first time they can't believe it...And after reading the first book, neither can I! Our world is full of garbage these days. The most innocent of premises is ruined by tmi and/or downright unnecessary filth. These books are a breath of fresh air. A GREAT read that doesn't need sex and scandal to draw the reader in. If LM Montgomery were alive I'd high five her because she's amazing. Authors and TV/movie writers could learn something from her-- violence, crude language and humor, and sex aren't needed to make something compelling.Read full review...

Anne of Green Gables

"Anne of Green Gables" is a beloved children's classic book by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, also known as L.M. Montgomery. Main character Anne of Green Gables is a spirited red-haired girl with boundless imagination and love of life. Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a brother and sister, own a Prince Edward Island farm house called Green Gables. Orphan girl Anne Shirley is sent to them by mistake, but Anne goes on to win the heart and love of her adopted family. The friendship between Anne and her best friend Diana Barry is also charmingly portrayed. "Anne of Green Gables" is one of the best children's books ever written. Children in 5th grade through 10th grade will enjoy this moving story and sympathize with the ups and downs in Anne's life.Read full review...

The Adventures of Anne Shirley: Book One in the Series

As a child, this was one of my all-time favorite books and I highly recommend it! It is a delightful fictional story. Children are the intended audience, however I feel that adults might be appreciative of this book as well. This classic was originally written in 1908, so the lifestyles of the characters in the book are quite different from the lifestyles of today’s readers. The language is a bit dated and some of the expressions are not what you’d hear these days. This, to me, is part of the book’s charm; I love the story! I loved it as a child when I read it in the 1980’s and I still love it now.

The heroine, Anne Shirley, is absolutely captivating. She is vivid in every way, from her bright red hair to her overactive imagination. It is amusing to read about her adventures because she does such unexpected things; Anne is quite unpredictable. She has a knack for getting herself into trouble and then charming her way back out of it. Her predicaments were often so funny to read about that I laughed out loud while reading along.

The story is set in Canada on Prince Edward Island, and Lucy Maud Montgomery’s descriptions of the area are another thing that I enjoyed about the story.

If there is a downside to this book, it is that there is not really a mystery to be solved or a cohesive plot with problem and resolution that is spelled out at the end. Rather, this book reveals life as it unfolds for this set of characters, some good things and some bad, some funny things and some sad. At the same time it also gives a glimpse, however idealized, into what life was like before TV, movies and rock and roll; the kids had to be more resourceful in entertaining themselves- and in this book, they definitely were. However, the book does not end neatly with everyone living “happily ever after”. I really appreciate that about this book, but I recognize that others may not see it in the same way. Still, I am very happy to recommend it! It is good, wholesome, enjoyable reading.

The Anne of Green Gables series are truly classics that every girl should read at least once. The series begins with a young girl, Anne Shirley, who comes to Green Gables to live with an older brother and sister, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. Anne is a spirited red-head who has a wild imagination that, more often than not, gets her into trouble. As the years go by, Anne blossoms into a young women and eventually becomes a wife and mother. There is never a dull moment in the life of Anne Shirley, and her enthusiasm and wit will charm any reader. So no matter your age, pick up the first book of this series "Anne of Green Gables" and step into the world of the lively and vivacious Anne (spelled with an 'e')!Read full review...

For all ages.

After reading the other reviews I noticed that many said it was for young ages. Although this is true. As a sixty nine year old pilot and motorcycle driving male I must encourage older readers to read this classic. Our time in history really needs to grasp what we have left behind. Needless to say, I love the book.Read full review...

Anne of Green Gables book set

I had never read the Anne of Green Gables books when I was younger. How I missed them, I'm not sure. However, recently I was able to download the first 3 books on my Ipod but wanted to read the entire set, thus leading to my purchase of the used but in excellent condition entire series. I can now read them at my leisure and also eventually read them to my granddaughter when she's a little older. A wonderful continuing story for any girl (whatever age)!Read full review...

Not worth the money !

This is a very small paper back book that is not even big enough to read. The price for this flimsy book is higher than buying it in a book store. It is definitely NOT a collectors edition . There are no pictures and it is nothing more than a cheap paper-book.Read full review...
