A noticeable improvement if work machine is a laptop

The Cinema Display is an outstanding monitor. I use it with my 2009 MacBook Pro to get a little more screen real estate. The picture is crisp, and the colors are vibrant. It has a MacSafe connector to keep your laptop charged, freeing up the laptop's connector to use on the road. The speakers are pretty good, but nothing to write home about. After a few hours of use, it will get a little warm under the bottom of the screen, but not too hot to touch. The screen tilt adjusts very easily and is a lot better than my previous monitor, which only offered a software solution to adjust the viewing angle. Some complain that the monitor is too bright and that the glossy finish reflects too much light, but my workspace faces the window, so it's not an issue. If you are used to a dull monitor, you will definitely notice the difference though. The only drawback for me is the fact that the monitor has to stay plugged into the laptop in order to work, which, over time, shortens the life of the battery. Other than that, it's a pretty good deal.Read full review...

Works real good gives same display as my iMac 2560x1440

I got this because we had a 2010 A1311 21.5" iMac die. She got my 2011 27" iMac and I wanted a bigger display, because come on, going from 27" to 15" on a 2011 Macbook Pro is well...bigger is better. This display, since I do NOT have anything except the 12,1 iMac with Thunderbolt, is the only one I could use unless I went to a regular monitor, but then no camera, no speakers, no microphone. I looked and looked and when I saw this, for $399, shipped for free, I got it.
It gives me the same experience I had with the iMac. Now the A1347 mid-2010 Mac Mini w/8GB RAM is a little slower I replaced the slow harddrive with a 1TB Mushkin REACTOR SSD. And it is a lot faster.
So as a "almost" like for like replacement of my iMac that my wife now uses, this monitor fits the bill.
IF you have something what has a mini-Display port and NOT Thunderbolt, then you need to get one of these.
And of course, anytime buying off eBay, and it's used, IF YOU CAN, get the Squaretrade Warranty on it too.
I did and IF something goes screwy on it (for the next 2 years) then it will BE FIXED (which Apple does NOT make these anymore) or REPLACED with LIKE-FOR-LIKE. So it's worth the extra when buying used online.

Still the best monitor out there.

The Apple Cinema Display or its Thunderbolt cousin are by far still be best quality monitor you can get. The color saturation, the contrast, the white balance are all superior to what competitors offer. You just cant beat these older Apple displays! To top it off, you also get a built in mic, camera, speakers, and 3 USB connections. The Thunderbolt display comes with even more connectivity! Read full review...

Best sRGB monitor availiable today. Not less.

I consider this to be the best monitor you can get at a reasonable price. Inspite of the fact it's Apple product we're going to use this with PC, because it works nicely with Displayport through good adapter (Atlona or Gefen brand) or mini-DP PC graphics cards.
It deliveres great picture, mostly because of glossy matrix without matte film that spoils everything, even on very expensive monitors. One of it's best features is that it doesn't have any backlight LED PWM-effects (flickering on low brightness).
It has no built in menu, but could be well controlled from your computer, and of the same reason the calibration is possible only through software.
Couldn't be used if you need wide gamut colorspace, NEC's PA271w would be the best choice in this situaion, but you'll get the anti-glare matte film effects with it.
So if you use only sRGB colorspace (which is often enough even for professional graphics editing) this monitor, if calibrated, is much better choice then NEC PA271W.
Hurry up, while they're still availiable (they don't produce them with mini-DP port anymore)

Excellent high quality display but avoid high ambient light/backlighting.

This display/monitor (like most Apple products) is the finest I've ever owned. It's picture is simply brilliant... a hi-res image both bright and sharp. The integrated speakers provide a sound much better than I expected though my usage is basically 'plain vanilla' sound off the internet. I do use this for graphics/web design and again the performance for me is nothing short of excellent. This display has a high gloss (glass) screen which augments clarity of image but the user has to watch backlighting... i.e. bright or strong ambient light coming from behind the user... where black/dark areas on the screen can begin to reflect such light... and this could lead to eye strain. At full retail ($1,000) this display is expensive. Ebay allowed for a solid 20% discount from retail for a "used" but pristine product in perfect working condition.Read full review...

Still worth it

Paid 200 for it early 2020 and works great when I’m editing HD Videos and graphic design. It works with a computer with a thunderbolt or mini display port and usb-a. Otherwise you’d need adapters to work with today’s MacBook pros for example that require usb-c for all ports.

My MacBook Pro was 2009 and MacBook Air from 2017 so it didn’t really need adapters except the MagSafe for the air. Quality of the screen was better than both my laptops though! Works seamlessly with mac.

Won't work unless you have a Thunderbolt port!!!!!!

I'm a Mac person, but I purchased this to connect to my work's HP laptop (with the assumption it would work with it). It does not. The HP laptop does have Type C, USB port (that looks and feels like a Thunberbolt port), BUT WILL NOT WORK, no matter what adapters you try. You MUST have a Thunderbolt port on your PC computer to even attempt to think about figuring our how to make it work with a PC. I gave up trying to make it work with the HP laptop and connected it to my iMac, and works perfectly!Read full review...

Beautiful display, size and features

Great monitor; works as described. Need to fiddle with which type of adapter you need depending on which model you get but definitely worth saving thousands on a new one IMO. Hoping it continues to work w/ no issues for a long while but it is already pretty old. Fingers crossed.Read full review...

Best monitor ever

I got this 27 inch incredible monitor recently from ebay.
Man, this just blows me out of the water. I cannot imagine how beautiful and elegant this monitor is. Good quality built-in stereo speakers, built-in iSight camera, built-in mic...
All this functions work perfectly and quietly together and create a whole new concept of home desktop experience...
Preferable to work with mac mini, macbook serious and mac pro. The charging functionality is especially useful since i can just throw out my big chargers away and plug in the power of monitor. 3 usb ports are also incredibly compatible and useful; they are best for your keyboards, speakers and cameras and so force.
if you are buying a new monitor, do not hesitate. Just get this one and it will never disappoint you.

Apple LED Cinema 27 inch LCD Monitor

I have had this display for two months now. I love having the extra space to organize my applications on. The Screen is easy on the eyes and crisp. I could not find a lot of other monitors out there that offer the same resolution for the screen size. The display works flawlessly with my Macbook Pro, even when I am using Windows 7 through bootcamp! USB 3.0 compatibility would be nice, and including adapters for those that do not have a Mini Displayport output would also be good. However, I would still rate this display as 10/10 and am extremely satisfied with my decision to make the upgrade.

It's worth every cent of the cost!
