Mac Pro Desktop
Extremely well designed. Easily upgradeable without a great deal of expense considering its age. Still performing and editing video when many Windows PCs have had to be long forgotten. It is dependable though sometimes a little slow.
Already own 1 just like it and will buy another if the price is fair. When it comes to doing graphic work or any type of production work, it can't be beat. My only regret is that Apple doesn't still make them.Read full review

Lots of life left in Mac Pro 1,1
Horses for courses as they say. When this Mac Pro came up for buy-it-now I bought it. Why a 17 year-old Mac? This model is a workhorse for certain applications. RAM is upgradable to 32 gb. Four hard drives can be mounted on sleds, hot swappable. This allows me to run older operating systems with plenty of storage for video and audio files. It runs at a respectable bus speed (faster than any laptop or I-Mac of that era. Ample USB and firewire ports. Its cheese grater design is not sexy-looking, but better than the bizarre flower pot or wastebasket design of other Macs. More versatile than a Mac Mini, it accepts a variety of video cards. Since it lives under my desk, I care not for looks or for latest, only for performance on my applications, which include older versions of Quark, Adobe, Final Cut Pro and various audio applications. The Mac Pro 1,1 will run Lion and may be coaxed or tweaked into running Yosemite. It will run a legacy version of Firefox also. But that's all I need from an $80 computer. Every OS upgrade from Mac makes more older software obsolete, requiring more investment or paying rental for Cloud access. BTW: I am still running some applications on OS 9.2 and OS 10.4.11 on G4 and G5 Macs.
Ask not what purchasing newer Mac will do for Apple's bottom line. Ask instead what a cost-effective older Mac will do for you!!!Read full review

Best computer I have ever purchased
I'm glad that I bought this 2008 Mac Pro. It is powerful, flexible and upgradable. A extremely well made and easy to service. I upgraded the memory to 32GB and replaced the boot hard drive with a Solid State drive. I tested the Mac with 4TB, 6TB and 8TB hard drives. All were recognized and useable. Then I added a 10TB drive for my iTunes master. All backups are created with external drives. It came with El Captain OS 10.11.6 installed and I was able to upgrade to High Serra.
I have been ripping my DVD collection to iTunes so I can view them on Apple TV. On my old Mac Mini I was using the time to rip a DVD was almost the actual run time of the video. However, with the dual processor, 8 core and running at 3.2 GHz it took 20 minuets to rip a 90 minute video. I love this Mac. .
I do not regret my decision And if I need another computer I will not hesitate to purchase another one. I will recommend these Mac Pros to everyone who is looking for a replacement should consider these. I recommend that you do some research on these Mac Pros and pay close attention to the year built and the configuration options available and the costs.Read full review

Love the Mac Pro
This is my second Mac pro, my first being a 1,1. They are easy to setup, utterly reliable and easily upgradeable. For the 3,1 i installed a new Wifi card that is compliant with Sierra as well as an SSD and am now running 10.12 thanks to Sierra Patcher. With the ability to use up to 32GB of ram and 8 total cores on the processor, this machine has the horsepower to go for years more.
Highly recommendedRead full review

Solid intel
This is probably one of the most stable machines they built. You can up grade the ram to 32gb... hold 4 hard drives. I only use this for recording but it has a ton of features. Gold mine if you wanna get out of the G5 apple this is the first step.Read full review
This thing is a beast! (Mac Pro 3,1 2x quad core 3.2ghz xeons, 32gb ram 2tb hd)
I added an Nvidia GTX 980, which went in like a cool breeze. After I slap in a 500g pci-e ssd, it will rival almost any out of the box PC offering on the market. Not bad for an 8 year old computer. And that aluminum cheese-grater style is just diesel to me. Ion-tech (the company I purchased from) has been nothing but helpful and courteous since I bought the machine. I'm more than happy with my purchase. Best $600 I've spent in a while.Read full review

Excellent machine all around
I bought this Mac Pro for use in my recording studio. I set it up with my recording software (Pro Tools 10/11) and it has been performing perfectly as it should. Because of the dual quad core processors and 16gb of RAM, this machine is a rocketship. I can use as many plugins as i want with no latency. I opened up one of my biggest sessions with over 60 tracks of audio and video on my 2012 MacBook pro and it would have alot of delay when starting and stopping the audio along with taking up almost 90% of the CPU processing power. That same session on this 08 Mac Pro doesn't even blink with that amount of heavy lifting. The CPU usage is at about 15% which is a huge improvement, and there is no latency what-so-ever. I am absolutely confident with this machine and expect to get many years of use out of it as the heart of my recording studio.
I am also using a dual (video) monitor setup thanks to the graphics card that it came with and both screens look absolutely beautiful and are 100% in sync with the audio that I am seeing and hearing.
Sorry for the long review but this machine deserves all of the praise that I can give it. If you have any reservations about buying an old Mac Pro from this seller, put your mind at ease and buy it, you won't find a better deal for the price.
Good luck and happy computing!

Great purchase!
This Mac was for a great price! These old Mac Pro 1,1 still work fantastically. There is still a lot of support for 10.7, but with some upgrades it can run 10.11. This computer was how it was said to be and in better condition than I expected.Read full review

Still relevant in 2017
This is still a very relevant and robust machine in 2017. Upgrade parts are super cheap and upgrading most items is fairly easy and intuitive (several videos are available online). Need minimal use of tools!! Infact to swap a hard drive, I did not need to use any tools at all. Will do most items in Mac OS X, though will have limited upgrade software wise in Mac OS environment - Lion is most it will handle. However, what it lacks in Mac OS software upgrade, easily compensates with inbuilt Boot Camp which will allow you to install Windows OS and run a Windows Desktop for items you cannot run on Mac OS. Super solid built, very quiet and liberal ports availability makes it a very easy desktop to work with. Read full review
