It works really well. Once it is set up it's easy to use.
I had to get help from a "techie" friend to help me set it up in the first place.
It only works with new TV screens that have a HDMI socket.

Honest opinion

I bought this mainly because I wanted to mirror my iPhone or iPad on my 50" TV at home & for that purpose only. This works brilliantly :)
I did have a look at some of the TV app's, but all but a few were not free & you need to subscribe to & pay for, which was a little off putting. However, I did manage to find a few Channels on there that were free to use like Sky news, Redbull & a few others. All of the movie apps you had to pay to view if you wanted to watch a film.
I bought my Apple 3 TV box 2nd hand (refurbished) & the money I paid for it, I cannot really grumble. I did not get the Apple 4th gen box, as I read a lot of people saying it was not all that good, the only difference being you could add app's, but what's the point when I can simply mirror my iPad on my TV? A great addition to home viewing so easy to to use,good picture quality and sound. With a house with multiple tv's the atv is very simple to transport to any room so no arguments who gets to watch which programme,everybody happy. Worth every penny/pound.

When connected to the TV and a wired or fast wireless home network it can mirror the screen of your iPhone, iPad or MacBook on the TV screen. This allows you to show photos or video from your Apple device on the TV screen. Depending on the app in use, it can also go into a full screen mode where it communicates directly with the network and your iPhone etc. just acts as a controller.

Good points: It works with most modern TV sets. It works well, is very easy to set up and use. It will also play certain streamed content. Most, but not all, TV catch up service apps allow you to go into full screen mode. It can also play music via the TV or home cinema amplifier.

Less good points: It is not designed to work with non-Apple phones, tablets or laptops.

Easy to use

I brought this to replace a broken one. I brought the Gen 5 with the fancy remote. The scroll pad on that is useless, but I navigate on that using my old remote. Brand new not always the best

Hi, received this yesterday and after resetting the device in itunes I was able to use the airplay function on my iphone and ipad. It works great and it was easy to setup!

Very good quality 2nd hand Apple TV

I'm really happy with my 3rd gen Apple TV - it works just as it should and easily connects to my home Wi-Fi on my TV and my iPhone XR using screen mirroring.

So far I have only used it to stream live ice hockey matches and I've not had any quality problems and because I have an up-to-date phone, the Apple TV automatically re-sizes to full size screen.
If I connect to my old iPad Air 2, when screen mirroring, it doesn't have the technology to automatically go full screen and displays in the internet browser that is open on my iPad.
